Youth Advisory Council To Juvenile Court Planned

Judge John M. Lewis announces the formation of a 24 member Youth Advisory Council to Juvenile Court in Jackson County. Principals from all seven county high schools will select two or more students per school from grades 10 through 12 to attend sessions at Brownstown, beginning January 1964, to study juvenile court issues and suggest improvements.

Train Strikes Car Near Seymour. Driver Survives

David Burns Russell, 23, of Ellettsville Ind, escaped serious injury when his car was hit by a Baltimore and Ohio freight train at a grade crossing five miles east of Seymour. He is in fair condition with facial and lip lacerations and several body injuries. The train engineer Don Hodapp, of Seymour, and Russell failed to see the locomotive approaching as his car was dragged 50 feet and rolled onto the road shoulder.

Defense Moves To Suppress Evidence In Jordan Murder Case

Special Judge Jack Rogers heard a defense motion in Bartholomew Circuit Court seeking to suppress state evidence against James Jordan 35 of Macon Georgia in the killing of Peter Allenopoulos 24 of a Chicago business district. The motion centers on arrest at Cedar Lodge motel near Indianapolis and searches without a warrant. The body was found near Seymour after the June 1957 disappearance. Evidence includes clothing and items seized from the motel room.

Vernon to Sell School Bonds for New Section

Vernon township to issue bonds totaling 42000 to fund a new farm shop addition at Crothersville High School. Bids for construction and for bond sale will be opened Monday at the Crothersville High School with a 6 percent maximum interest limit and a 45 day no withdrawal clause.

Compton Ends 35 Year Run at Seymour Post Office

James R. Compton, 69, fireman custodian at Seymour Post Office, retires after 35 years December 30. He began in 1928 under five postmasters, recalls coal furnace days, 60 hour weeks pre WWII, and now leaves with a 40 hour week and a $5,680 yearly salary. He will be honored with 35 silver dollars and succeeded by Robert Q. Edmonds. He plans to fish, play checkers, and travel with wife Lula. they live at 919 West Brown Street.

Rev G Porter to Lead E U B Church in Seymour

The Rev. Glen Porter, longtime pastor at Dale E U B Church and Lincoln City E U B Church since 1946, will assume duties at First Evangelical United Brethren Church Seymour on January 1. Four Hurt As Two Cars Collide Near Brownstown

Four people were injured in a two car crash at the Indiana 250 and Tampico road intersection, six miles east of Brownstown. A 97 year old woman, Anna Prince, was admitted to Schneck Memorial Hospital with a hip injury and listed as fair.

Two Ice Victims Admitted To Schneck Memorial Hospital

Seymour residents Newton Hayes and William Edwards were treated in the Schneck Memorial Hospital emergency room for injuries after slipping on ice. Hayes fractured his right hip and Edwards his left leg above the knee. both were admitted and listed in fair condition.

Cold 10 Above This Morning In Indiana

A cold low of 10 above zero hit Seymour and Jackson County as a renewed cold snap tightened its grip on Indiana. Snow flurries were possible in the extreme northwest tonight and Sunday. Sunday highs were forecast from 18 to 33 degrees, and tonight’s lows from two above to 15 above. A 38 degree high was recorded Friday, with White River at Rockford at 4.5 inches and stationary at 7 a.m.
