Checks totaling $270 785 33 were mailed to 12 townships and six civil and school units. Indiana received 18 774 67, with the rest staying in the county. Total fall and spring distributions for 1948 reached 965 703 53 in county taxes. The Seymour civil city received 42 854 95 in fall funds.
Agnes Nayrocker 90 died this morning at Schneck Memorial Hospital after injuries from a fall on November 28. She lived 16 years with daughter Alice Ruddick in Seymour and was widow of Henry Nayrocker. Funeral at St Ambrose Church with burial in Catholic Cemetery. rosary Thursday night at Voss Mortuary.
Russell Vaught of North Vernon R3 sustained injuries in a corn picker accident on the Jim Ashton farm when he stumbled while turning off the machine. He was taken to Seymour Memorial Hospital by his wife and sister and released after treatment.
Jackson County farmers join about 3000 Hoosiers at Purdue University for the Winter Agricultural Conference in Lafayette. Jackson County Rural Youth wins bronze for 1948 program planning. Gene Bobb, son of Mr and Mrs Omer Bobb of Crothersville Al south of Dudley town, suffered a severe head injury when he fell from a moving automobile onto the road in Tennessee as the family traveled toward Florida. He was reportedly returned home with no definite condition available.
At a Seymour Rotary Club dinner meeting, members watched the color film Of This We Are Proud about the United States and its heritage. The film highlighted statues, buildings, quotes, and scenes across the nation showing American industry and invention shaping living standards.

Woods says rent controls remain in five Indiana regions including Columbus and Jackson county due to ongoing housing shortages after the war. Snow gives way to rain and rising temperatures in Seymour after a two day cold spell. Temperatures dipped to eight degrees and 21 degrees at night while the high reached 38. Rain expected to continue into Wednesday morning with clearing by afternoon.
Mrs. Sophia Bain 92 died at the home of her son Harry E. Hallett 723 Hastedt street after a year of illness. Born July 22 1856 in Holton Ind she was among the citys oldest residents. Survived by seven children two brothers a sister 23 grandchildren 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Burial will be in Nebraska Ind with funeral arrangements to be announced.

Nineteen Jackson County farms have remained in the same families for a century or more, identified by research for the Indiana State Historical Society. Certificates honor the long lineage, including the T. Harlan Montgomery farm in Reading township dating to 1820.

Funeral services for the Rev. Carl Trautman 66 pastor of the Convoy Ohio Lutheran Church were held this morning with burial in Logansport He died Christmas Eve at Convoy after a stroke and illness Survivors include his son Carl and five daughters plus two sisters The Rev Trautman previously served at Lake Charles Waymansville Lima and Toledo before Convoy and was son of the late Rev and Mrs August E Trautman
A collision at Second street and Indianapolis avenue caused more than 185 in vehicle damage. Harry Ralph Gresham of Cortland Al turned left onto Second street as Walter Melvin Newkirk of 714 Bush street traveled south on Indianapolis avenue. No injuries reported.
One driver was fined five dollars and costs after a collision on U S Road 31 eight miles south of Seymour. James B. Person of Knoxville pleaded guilty to operating to the left of the center line. His 1947 sedan struck a southbound 1940 coach driven by Johnnie N. Kroetz of Indianapolis. Damage totaled about 250 dollars to the sedan and 150 to the coach. Merle Whittemore of Eaton Rapids pulled a house trailer south and slid onto the berm to avoid involvement.
Local taxpayers may receive help filing 1948 federal income tax returns at the deputy collector of internal revenue office in Seymour. Lowell Alexander announced aid days on January 3 4 7 10 14 17 18 20 24 25 and 28 in the basement of Seymour post office. February dates and final March 15 filing deadline will be announced later.
Western powers created an international Ruhr Authority to restrict Germany’s Ruhr valley production to peaceful aims. The six nation conference including the United States Britain France Netherlands Belgium and Luxembourg directed inspections and a security board to be activated in two to three months. Germany may gain a seat on the board once a legal government exists.
Two babies arrived at Schneck Memorial Hospital on a precise timetable. A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. James Holmes at 8:09 AM, followed by a son born to Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Tiemeier of Brownstown at 9:09 AM.
A broken milk bottle injured Dr. C. H. Spencer of Seventh and Walnut as milk froze on his home steps. He suffered a deep cut on the back of his head and a severely wrenched back and is being treated at home.

The United Nations Security Council ordered the Netherlands to free captured Indonesian leaders within 24 hours amid mounting regional tensions.
Four new directors of the Men s Brotherhood of the Central Christian Church were elected Monday night for two year terms. Carl Feaster G B Bottorff Jason Copeland Virgil Perry join four existing directors whose terms run through 1949. Herbert Hillenburg presided as president. William Smith sang spiritual and secular numbers with Mrs Smith accompanying. Refreshments closed the meeting.
Fifty patients at the Veterans Hospital in Waco Texas have seen potential improvement through prefrontal leukotomy surgeries performed by doctors at the McKinney Administration Hospital. Two veterans believed hopelessly insane have begun recovery and relearning with this rare procedure.
Twelve men stranded up to three weeks on a Greenland icecap were rescued by a C-47 with jet assist. The men were picked up near Bluie West Eight after earlier efforts from Bluie West One and other rescue attempts. The plan aimed to fly to Labrador, pending refueling.

Warren Jones, 17, star center and leading scorer for Bedford High School basketball, died of a heart attack after practice at his parents’ home. He collapsed following a Monday afternoon workout. In six games this season he had 22 field goals.
Mrs. Glendon T. Adams of Cortland, Alabama, was admitted to Schneck Memorial Hospital after a horse drawn wagon overturned onto her. The horses reportedly ran away and the wagon toppled. she was not listed in critical condition.
