Indiana weather outlook forecasts slowly rising temperatures with mostly cloudy skies and light snow in the northeast tonight. The state bureau cautions of much colder conditions later Thursday night amid a lingering cold spell in surrounding areas.
About 150 Masons and guests attended a banquet and public installation for Washington Lodge No 13 Free and Accepted Masons in Brownstown. Ford Lutes was installed Worshipful Master, succeeding Lawrence Cooper.
Vancouver police investigated the cremation of 16 year old Emiko Yamada, found in the furnace at her Fairview district home. Autopsy indicated burns as the cause of death and authorities have not ruled out suicide or murder.
After Christmas nine wedding licenses were issued at the county clerk's office as proof that June is not the only wedding month. Licenses granted December 22 and last Saturday include couples from Beardstown Crothersville Seymour and Indianapolis.
Miss Stella Gilbert of Ewing Street Road, a teacher at Emerson School, is hospitalized in Tipton with severe injuries from a crash on U S Route 31 south of Kokomo. She suffered facial cuts requiring stitches, broken teeth, a broken toe, and head injuries after being thrown through the windshield. Dexter M. Gilbert, driving the car, has a broken nose and bruises. Three Seymour residents were injured. one escaped unharmed.
Mrs. Ward Gossman of this city her father in law Fred Gossman of Brownstown and sister in law Mrs Harold Martin of Brownstown were lightly hurt when their car skidded on ice while avoiding a passing vehicle and overturned in a ditch on State Road 29 about 2.5 miles south of Logansport. Gossman sustained several cracked ribs and Mrs Martin several ribs torn loose. all three were bruised.
Ralph Rich formerly Brownstown night marshal, acted as day marshal for ninety days due to Tom Cordrey's illness. He was named marshal for the coming year by the town board, effective January 1. Floyd Rich, son, was named night marshal, a post he has held since his father became acting day marshal.
Edmonton Alberta recorded an official temperature of 51 below zero at the airport marking a frigid day. The figure stands as a severe cold snap claim for the region.
Lydia L. Christie, age eighty nine, longtime Seymour resident, died at home after a weeklong illness. She moved to Jackson county in 1900 from Scott county where she was born December 2, 1847. Survived by six children, two stepchildren, sixteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Funeral 2 PM Friday at Voss Mortuary with Rev. Amo L. Boren. burial in Riverview Cemetery. Visitors may call after 7 PM tonight.
Seymour fire department responded at 11 10 Tuesday night to the home of Mr and Mrs H R Ringler at Fifth and Johnson where an overheated smoke pipe ignited a coal bin partition causing smoke in the house. Firemen put out the blaze with no damage beyond the partition.
Wisconsin author Zona Gale Breese died of pneumonia in Passavant Hospital Chicago after arriving for treatment three weeks earlier. She was 36. The author known for depicting small town Midwestern life had been treated in an oxygen tent a week prior.
Church school attendance in Seymour on Christmas Day increased by fifty seven from 1932. J Robert Blair compiled the reports noting 1265 attendees this year versus 1208 six years ago when Christmas fell on a Sunday.
Albany officials promoting public schooling as the nation’s shield against anti democratic forces. Dr. George M. Wiley, associate commissioner of education for New York, urged action against quacks with pet panaceas in a speech before the Associated Academic Principals.
Seymour Lions Club members enjoyed a varied program at their weekly dinner meeting. Louis Swain of Indianapolis presented entertainment and demonstrated number playing methods. A. L. Jackson and Alfred Snyder led the entertainment committee and a future Medora and Wallonia Lions charter night was planned for Medora.
Mrs. Mary Ann Garloch aged eighty four longtime Jackson county resident died at 11:45 Tuesday night at the Seymour home of Charles Bowman. Funeral services Thursday at the Freetown Christian Church with Rev. Eph Scott officiating. Burial in Freetown Cemetery. Survivors include two sons E. O. Garloch and Z. M. Garloch of Columbus, Ind. Friends may call at Winklepleck Funeral Home in Freetown until the service.

John W Moore Sr president and John W Moore Jr secretary treasurer faced up to 57 years per their indictments. The verdict centered on alleged schemes harming east midwestern businesses and individuals with losses around 1 200 000.
Federal agents and investigators marked the third year of the Mattson kidnapping case seeking the killer of 10 year old Charles Mattson. More than 16 000 people have been questioned across a 150 mile radius around Tacoma with little progress toward identification or capture.
Six Mile Lodge No 412 with Hayden, honored L H Becker of this city as an honorary member. Becker, a member of Jackson Lodge 146, served as installing officer amid a Becker Night banquet and program at Hayden High School gym. Conrad Sullivan installed as Worshipful Master with Wilbur Cassidy as junior deacon and a full slate installed. The event drew 75 attendees with readings, songs, and a piano solo, followed by a banquet served by Eastern Star members.
Mrs Elizabeth Humann age 86 of 540 South O’Brien Street died at 5 50 PM Tuesday after a two month illness with complications She was a Jennings county native who lived in the county since 1913 born June 14 1852 She married Louis P Humann in 1882 He died 1922 Survived by Andrew Humann Indianapolis brother James Keefe Jennings county sister Mrs Margaret Fox Washington four grandchildren Funeral at St Ambrose Catholic Church with Rev W G Burkart burial Catholic Cemetery Mortuary after 7 PM tonight
