Mrs. Mary E Hardesty, age 103 turning 104, helps her great grandson on a Tribune route at 536 West Fifth Street. Born December 28, 1862 in Webster Kentucky, she has lived in Kentucky most of her life with stints in Arkansas Missouri and Florida. Her family includes eight siblings and one surviving brother Winfield Hendry, 83. She has lived with the Boas family since October and attributes her longevity to work and a positive outlook.

Michigan Family Man Killed in Night Car Crash Near Seymour
Eugene Cormack Coffey 58 of Fennville Michigan died from a crushed chest when his car struck an abandoned vehicle on Interstate 65 south of Seymour. His wife Leona 48 and daughter Kimberly 9 were seriously injured with facial injuries and leg fractures respectively. A Crothersville man 24 also died in a separate one car crash nearby during the long holiday weekend. The mishap occurred at 8 13 p m as Coffey’s car passed another vehicle and failed to regain control, sliding into the berm and hitting the abandoned car. Leona Coffey was later listed in fair condition, and Kimberly Coffey was transferred to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis in fair condition.

Troopers from the Seymour state police post investigated seven accidents over the Christmas weekend in Jackson County. One crash claimed the life of a Michigan man and injured two others. A Seymour youth, Thomas A. Stewart, 17, lost control on a gravel road south of Seymour, his car skidding 100 feet to strike a culvert. damage about 250 dollars. Collision damaged cars and a parked 1960 truck. Pollert attempted to slow for Combs, causing braking lockup.
