Progress on U S 31 bridges near Seymour advances
Winter weather cannot halt work on three sets of dual lane bridges relocating U S 31 north of Uniontown. The north set, built by J L Wilson Bloomfield, is about three fourths complete with one full steel structure in place and concrete floors being poured. The project includes six spans and 30 foot roadways. The second contractor Harold Tharp and Son Fountain City handles the Vernon fork spans, bid accepted December 20 1955 for four spans and two other overflows.

Trash Ignited Shed Damaging Birge Residence Sailboat
A carton of burning trash placed beside the Birge family's shed wall at 607 North Poplar Street sparked a fire that damaged the shed and a 16 foot sailboat under construction by Jerry Birge. The blaze spread to the hull causing scorched wood, broken windows and a burned ladder before Seymour firefighters stopped it. no total loss estimate was provided.

One Family Assisted After Sunday Rockford Fire

Indiana State Police will deploy the entire force of 601 officers on highway duty during the New Year period to curb holiday weekend fatalities.
