Hayden Couple Lose Home in Hayden Fire
Mr and Mrs W S Rogers aged 65 to 70 were made homeless when fire destroyed their two story seven room brick dwelling in Hayden. Fire started in the attic over the kitchen and was believed caused by a defective chimney. Neighbors spotted smoke around 9 this morning and smoke. The North Vernon fire department fought the blaze but water shortage hindered efforts. Loss described as partly insured. The couple will be cared for locally before going to relatives in North Vernon.

Power outage affects homes north of Seymour
About 100 homes served by REMC in the Redding area were without electricity for about three hours early today due to an open circuit reclosure. The outage was reported near 4 00 a m and REMC officials said there were no unusual circumstances. Power was restored about 6 30 a m.

Holiday season accidents mar Seymour roads
Two minor auto crashes and a small fire marked Seymour’s holiday season. A 1949 two door sedan driven by Walter Kretzer collided while entering a service station driveway on Ewing street, a 1954 sedan driven by Thomas Allen backed into it, both about $25 damage. A 1954 Yeadon sedan collided at Ewing and East Third streets, causing $500 damage and breaking three teeth of Alvis Yeadon. A grease fire at Roy Payne’s home prompted a response with no damage. Fire chiefs declined a call to Hayden due to no water supply. Seymour fire trucks carry 130 gallons.

Man Killed South of Crothersville During Holiday Weekend
A man identified as Robert Ren Rigsby, 60, of Anderson and formerly of North Vernon, died after his car struck the Jersey bridge abutment over the Muscatatuck River near the Jackson-Scott county line.
