Second Victim Dies From Seymour Wreck In Jackson County
The second victim of a holiday road collision on U S Road 31 near Seymour, Leslie Carr 39 of Indianapolis died at Schneck Memorial Hospital. His death raises Jackson County 1939 traffic fatalities to thirteen, matching 1938. Carr suffered head injuries, a fractured jaw and a calf cut from the crash that also killed his niece Ella Vene McGuffey. McGuffey died at the hospital after a fractured skull from the same wreck in which their relative George McGuffey was not injured. The collision occurred when a northbound tractor trailer loaded with whiskey and pecans overturned after veering from its lane near a bridge and highway scales. An inquest is underway by Deputy Coroner S F Tower. Carr’s body to Indianapolis for funeral services.

Free tuberculosis clinic planned for Jackson County

Dr C J McIntyre of Indianapolis will be the examining physician and clinics run 10 am to 3 pm with many patients expected. The association also announced the 1939 seat sale and bond sale drive closed Christmas Day and urged payments and seals be returned to complete the drive totals. Follow up cards will be sent to those with outstanding payments.

Leroy E. Weddell age seventy four well known Medora farmer died at 4 o'clock this morning after a yearlong illness. Born May 30 1865 in Indiana he was the son of James and Serilda Weddell. He is survived by two children Harry Weddell and Mrs Oscar Shepard and five brothers Nannie Dee Samuel Charles and Toot Weddell. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 50 pm at the Medora Christian Church with Rev Ralph Underwood in charge. Burial will be in Zollman cemetery near Medora.

Madison wing, Seymour man injured in gravel pit fall
Madison Wing, 82, of Seymour, resting at home after injuries from a noon Thursday fall at a gravel pit south of the Millport bridge in Washington county. He suffered rib and spinal injuries and was found after lying at the pit for some time. He is the father of Charles and Oscar Ewing of Seymour. Miss Alice Potts of Crothersville R2 had an acute appendicitis operation at Schneck Memorial Hospital Tuesday night.
