A local woman used counterfeit First National Bank counter checks to pass $18.25 payments at Atlantic & Pacific, Kroger on South Chestnut, and W. N. Reynolds grocery over the Christmas period. The checks bore the signature T H Rudick to Walter Lucas with Lucas and Mrs Lucas as endorser. The woman, described as medium build with dark hair and pleasant manner, spoke to clerks by name and left with goods and change after presenting the checks.

Miss Dorothy Gregor, 18, of Vincennes, was badly injured when a machine she rode in was struck by a train near Vincennes Sunday night. She has since regained consciousness and is expected to recover. Her companion William Eckhart also injured. both were in the rumble seat. Five were injured in an auto truck collision on a culvert west of Columbus on the Nashville pike. Miss Emily McMahon 17, initially thought dead, sustained a scalp wound and possible skull fracture. A severely injured Atlanta boy, Kolmes Gosden, nearly died after a swallowed ball of shot jammed his stomach. Doctors tied a string to the projectile and to the boy, tugging it to draw the shot upward through the stomach and out an abdominal incision. The string extended to his nose and was pasted to his face to guide the pathway as doctors gradually reopen the stomach.
