Damp Christmas Weather Dampens Hoosier Holiday in Indiana

Airport Meet Is Scheduled

Industries at Freeman Municipal Airport are asked to send representatives to a 10 a m Friday meeting in the airport manager's office. Seymour Mayor Christopher D. Moritz will host with the new airport manager James B. Harvey. The city will aid in maintenance and other issues to improve Freeman Field for firms.

Medora Board Seeks Bids for Town Supplies and Services

Medora board of trustees will meet at 7 p m Thursday in the town hall to open bids and award contracts for gasoline oil lubricants fuel oil and bituminous materials. The bid call includes stone gravel concrete cold and hot mix patching and rental of auto patrol graders and motor pavement.

Commissioners Rename Appointees To Posts

Jackson County board of commissioners re appointed several appointees to county posts during a year end session at the courthouse in Brownstown. Final approval is anticipated at the first meeting of the new year. Also approved a bridge inspection contract with Associated Engineering Consultants on a federal matching fund basis. A 35 mph limit was set on County Road 200 North near Ratliff Grove Church. The Muscatatuck River Bridge east of Crothersville, under construction, is open to traffic after Winslow Construction Co completed final work.

Burglaries Reported In Seymour On Christmas Day

Seymour police continue investigations into three burglaries reported Christmas Day. A residence on West Eighth Street was entered at 11:30 p.m. with the occupant hearing a intruder flee. nothing reported missing. Earlier, theft from a truck occurred on South Avenue at 11:38 a.m. with a shotgun, rifle, tape player, 24 eight track tapes and 65 others taken. Marshall's Service Center on Ninth and Ewing reported a break in at 10:09 a.m. with cash, cigars, motor oil cases and batteries missing. Entry was by a broken window.

Eight Die In Holiday Traffic at Lae

Indiana officials reported eight deaths in holiday travel, below the predicted 18, with fatal crashes on Interstate 65 near Brookston and on Indiana 128 near Frankton. Pauline M Hackworth, 18, of Indianapolis, died when her car left the highway and hit a snow bank. Norman Delph, 50, of Anderson, was struck while walking after stopping his disabled car. Gasoline shortages and lighter travel were cited as factors.
