Jackson County Sets Final 1963 Appointments and Bids

Jackson County commissioners finalized 1963 appointments for a year subject to January confirmation. They reappointed Allan H. Nierman county attorney Alfred L. Spurlock public health nurse Mona Boley Cletus Sneed highway superintendent Jack Mullen highway supervisor and Fred Brock to the hospital trustees for one to three year terms. Three bids for office supplies were received from Graessle Mercer Jackson Office Supplies and Bedford Office Supplies. contract awarded to Graessle Mercer for all classes including printing. The group also held their annual Christmas dinner at the Seymour Elks Club with remarks by Don Manion incoming county clerk and Thomas Hall commissioner. A memorial service for the late Commissioner Paul Martin was conducted by County Auditor Schroer.

Fire leaves Dixon family in need of children's clothing

The Jackson County Chapter of the American Red Cross appeals for children's clothing after a fire near Bobtown damaged the home of Clyde Dixon and his five children. A seven year old girl lost most of her clothes and a winter coat is needed for a five year old boy. The other children are 11, 9, and 4. Donations can be arranged through Dora Reynolds or the Dixon family in Bobtown. Dixon works at the Walter Findley and Son saw mill near Rockford.

Invisible Ice Triggers Indiana Highway Crashes On Christmas

Freezing Christmas Eve and night formed invisible ice on Indiana highways causing a series of accidents with injuries. Three people were injured when a car on I 65 near Crothersville left the road, overturned, and pinned occupants. Gerald Youngblood 41, his mother 67, and aunt 51 suffered head, knee, and facial injuries.

Pershing OKs Carr Rejects Consolidation

The consolidation plan for the school board splits representation across Brownstown township Driftwood Grassy Fork and Pershing townships leaving one seat vacant. Brownstown Central workers approved consolidation but Carr township representation is not included. Notice signed by Pershing town officials.

Crothersville Man Killed Crossing in Austin

Urba Baxter 88 year old retired farmer of Crothersville R2 died instantly Tuesday at 2 20 p m when his 1957 coach crossed a Pennsylvania Railroad crossing in Austin and was struck by a southbound freight train. Burial in Crothersville Cemetery with services Friday at 2 p m. He survived by a son Hayden Baxter and daughter Birdie Butler plus four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Three Women Receive Nice Christmas Gifts Become Mothers Here

Three couples across southern Indiana counties welcomed newborns on Christmas Day at Schneck Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Wilbert Jessee of Seymour and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gabbard of Jennings County in North Vernon became parents to a son and a daughter respectively, while Mr. and Mrs. John Bridgewater of Little York in Washington County welcomed a daughter.
