Tragic U.S. 31-A Crash Claims Greenwood Man
A Greenwood man Joseph C. Scott 46 died in a crash on Alternate U. S. 31 near Little Acres north of Seymour. His wife Bertha Scott 43 and son Robert 11 were injured and transported to hospitals after a collision between their northbound station wagon, a halted southbound car, and a fuel oil truck. The truck driver Leo Summers 49 and the other driver Gerald Smith 16 were uninjured. Investigating officers described a multi-vehicle wreck with the truck and wagon jammed together and the station wagon a total loss. The crash remains under Jackson County investigation with local and state officials at the scene.

Search Ends For Plane Survivors Near Oahu
The U S Navy abandoned the two day and night search 25 miles north of Oahu for survivors of a four engine radar Constellation that crashed during a training flight. Only three officers and one enlisted man survived from the crew of about 18 with two bodies recovered. Survivor Cmdr Guy Howard and Lt John Thomas Kline describe the crash and fire as engines failed and the craft stopped at 1500 feet. A destroyer remains on scene to watch for debris.
