Deadline on State Bonus Is Sunday
Jackson county World War II veterans are urged to file for the Indiana bonus before the deadline Sunday even if documents are missing. Veterans' service officer Alfred Spurlock says to file now and fix papers later, with next of kin allowed to file for out of state veterans. The midnight deadline is December 31, with no clear extension expected. veterans are advised to treat Saturday as the cutoff. About 40,000 Indiana veterans have not applied, including 300 to 400 in this county. 2,300 county veterans have already submitted. Spurlock will meet after hours in Browns Town to accommodate veterans. Application blanks are available at the veteran advisor's office, the Red Cross in Seymour, and local veterans organizations.

Three Arrested For Offenses In Jackson And Freetown
Henry Clay McIntosh of Seymour was charged in Jackson Circuit Court with a third offense of operating a vehicle under the influence after a late Saturday arrest by Officer Walter G. LaMaster. Wayne Edward Brewster, 41, of New Albany, was arrested Saturday for DUI while driving a large semitrailer on U S Route 31 by First Sgt. Chester Wilson and Detective Wayne O. Tolbert. Ralph Spurgeon, 29, of Freetown, was arrested Saturday night for window peeping by Deputy Lester Greathouse and state police. the charge is to be filed in circuit court.

State police from Seymour investigated a burglary at Cortland School during the Christmas holiday period. Entry was made by forcing a gym east wall window and prying office doors. Metal filing cabinets were ransacked but nothing was reported stolen. Detective Don Winn was informed.

Authorities search the mid west area for Truman Scott 27 of Louisville Ky who escaped from Jackson county jail near Brownstown over the holiday weekend. Scott vanished from the second floor cell while fellow inmates Robert Weatherbee 25 of Louisville and Ronald Boomer Shine 16 of Niles Mich were held there. Deputies found no saw blades and suspects claim they do not know when or how the escape occurred.

Body search for Robert L. Judge ends without success
An organized search by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and volunteers for the body of Robert L. Judge 22 Indianapolis proved unsuccesful over Sunday and Monday. Searchers dragged the White River from Rockford downstream with no trace found. Judge, a Pennsylvania Railroad signalman, drowned December 7 after slipping from an ice coated trestle while seeking safety from an approaching train.

Man Fined and Given 120 Days at Penal Farm
Amos Buzz Coombs of this city was found guilty of public intoxication in city court before Mayor Donald L. Herwig. He paid 10 dollars plus costs totaling 20 dollars and received 120 days at the state penal farm. Coombs was arrested early Saturday and released on 50 dollar bond until trial. Ernest Wilkerson of Bloomington R5 pled guilty to public intoxication and paid 20 dollars in fines. Francis J. Powers of Seymour pled not guilty to disorderly conduct and trial set for Saturday at 10. William M. Davis of Sparksville was arrested for public intoxication and released to appear this morning.
