County awards bids for 1967 supplies and printing

Jackson County Commissioners met to award contracts for highway supplies printing and office supplies for 1967. Bids were accepted for gravel stone lumber ready mix cement tires and tubes culverts fuels and county home supplies with several vendors approved and others rejected for noncompliance or higher bids.

Jury List Drawn For January Term In Jackson County

Names of 57 jurors for the January 1967 term of the Jackson Circuit Court were drawn at the Brownstown courthouse. Fifty-seven people were selected for petit and grand juries, with the term running until February 28.

Fund Aids Family Stricken By Fire

A downtown Seymour Christmas fund started Thursday morning to aid the Burke family after a fire at 603 South Broadway damaged their home. Contributions of food, clothing, infant wear, a turkey for Christmas, and about 70 dollars in cash were received through Marilyn's Coffee Shop run by Mrs. Joseph Johnson. The family includes Larry and Glenda Burke and their two young children, Mike and Stacey.

Christmas Fund Tops 1965 Total in Local Drive

The 48th annual Christmas Fund Drive raised 1281.57, topping 1964's 1416.42. Three late gifts boosted the total, with Brown's Grocery and Jay's Market employees giving 45, Nolting's IGA 26.49, and Paris Style Kiddie Ride 32.50. Over 100 baskets of food and toys were distributed to Seymour families. 7 a.m. distribution followed basket prep by the American Legion auxiliary.

Marines Engage in Heavy Fire During Christmas Truce

A U S Marine company faced intense small arms and mortar fire about eight hours into a 48 hour Christmas truce near Da Nang. Marines fired artillery in response and reported about 1000 rounds plus 20 mortars on their position. The clash was the most significant so far in the truce period and described as potentially an important violation by officials.
