Phonographs Gifted to Muscatatuck in County Music Box Project
The Operation Music Box committee of the Jackson County Mental Health Association delivered 30 phonographs and many records to Muscatatuck State Hospital as a Christmas surprise after raising funds in October and securing cooperation from Arvin Industries. Donations from local merchants unions and businesses across Seymour and Brownstown funded 30 record players placed in every ward.

Local wounded Marine featured on national TV news
Lance Corporal Jack D Reynolds 21 of Seymour county believed to be first Viet Nam casualty from Jackson County was interviewed by a national TV news program upon arrival in California en route to Great Lakes Naval Hospital. His parents Howard Schmidt and family traveled to Chicago for Christmas as Reynolds' orders shifted and he planned a return to the United States. The interview aired Thursday night and again on Indiana stations with Walter Cronkite leading the coverage. Reynolds spoke of his hope to walk again amid ongoing recovery and family plans back home.
