Shrine Club Distributes Christmas Baskets in Jackson County
Seventy five families in Jackson county were remembered today by the Southern Indiana Shrine Club with baskets of food and toys. William F. Herwig, club vice president, reported 40 baskets in Seymour, 20 in Brownstown, 15 in Medora, with similar efforts across five counties. Funds came from the State Club via a cooperative drive. Only children received baskets, each containing toys, nuts and fruit, in one of the largest holiday distributions by the club.

Three Personnel Changes Are Set
Three changes in Seymour city departments are planned for January 1. Wyatt A. Johnson and Nelson Waldkoetter will join the fire department to meet a state law requiring a day off per man. Donald Winn Jr. will replace Officer Johnson in the police department, continuing a Winn family lineage in law enforcement. Winn served three years in the Navy and holds a gunsmith degree from Trinidad Junior College.

Christmas gifts aid families after Medora fire
A truck delivered furniture food baskets and toys to Mr and Mrs Raymond Reynolds of Medora whose home burned December 17. The Seymour Post American Legion Christmas committee, aided by Ralph Droege, supplied most furniture and funded the rest. The drive extended to other families in Seymour with baskets and presents for children.

Youth Arrested For Burglaries In Bedford
A youthful burglar was captured Wednesday night in the act of stealing auto accessories from a Bedford company. The suspect had earlier broken into S. H. Berry’s Bedford railroad tie office on Monday, taking a book of checks. Berry’s yard inspector William Thompson reported the first break in.

Nearly 400 employees and families attended a Christmas party at Shields High School Gymnasium. Wife shoots dean of Georgia School in Athens tragedy
Kathleen Drewry shot and wounded her ex husband Dean John E. Drewry of the University of Georgia journalism school and Miss Miriam Thurmond, a former secretary, in the Drewry home.
