On Christmas Eve the town prepares hundreds of baskets for the less fortunate funded by the American Legion and local groups. Baskets stocked with food toys candy nuts and other items will be distributed tonight and Christmas Day as part of a Santa Fund collection continuing to page 6.

Ernest Jones of 401 East Ninth Street is hospitalized at Schneck Memorial with fractures in both bones of his right leg after being hit by Otis Lawson’s 1935 truck at Fifth Street and Broadway. Lawson told police Jones rode south as he turned left onto Fifth. bicycle struck during the turn.
Brownstown Girl Scouts visited Camp Jackson near Brownstown to sing Christmas carols for Company 1456 in the Jackson County State Forest. The group toured with nine girls and a truck, shared refreshments, and delivered treats, bringing holiday cheer to CCC enrollees and recalling past Christmases.
Billy Hill a 42 year old songwriter from New York and Hollywood was found dead in a Boston hotel room. Dr Herman Schwartz attributed the death to natural causes. Hill wrote many songs including The Last Roundup The Old Spinning Wheel They Cut Down the Old Pine Tree Rain Wagon Wheels Lights Out Old Man of the Mountain and In a Chapel in the Moonlight.
Baltimore and Ohio Railroad employees received their wages early this month to have funds for Christmas. Payments began Saturday December 21, even though regular payday is December 25. Pennsylvania Railroad also paid on Monday December 23, its standard payday.

Retiring Master Bard acted as installing officer with Past Master F E Sargeant as marshal.
Fire, likely sparked by a falling chimney ember, burned a hole in the roof of Charles Brown’s house on Ewine Street Road shortly after 1 PM. Mrs. Brown discovered the blaze and firefighters extinguished it. damage described as heavy.

Crothersville hosts a Christmas Eve program featuring a large decorated community tree on Howard and Armstrong streets. The Lions Club sponsors the event with carols to open the observance and treats to follow.

Officers Toppe Bobb and Fox led the raid.
