Two Die In One Car Crash On Ind 135 Near Wallonia

A 1958 sedan carrying Sally Jo Brooks and Larry L. Nantz left the road north of Wallonia on Indiana 135 around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, struck a concrete bridge abutment, and overturned. Brooks, 25, died at the scene from a broken neck and multiple bruises. Nantz, 23, died later at Bartholomew County Hospital from a crushed chest and broken legs. Investigating troopers and local officers noted loss of control on a hill and the car's door flew open, throwing Nantz from the vehicle. Coroners to determine formal verdicts of accidental death for Brooks and Nantz.

Stores To Close Early Tuesday For Christmas Eve

Heavy snow coats Seymour streets as shoppers rush final hours of the season. Stores stay open until 9 pm tonight then resume 9 am Tuesday but will close around 5 pm to allow employees time with families on Christmas Eve. Weather remains cold with light snow adding to a white Christmas outlook.

One Killed 25 Injured In Hammond Warehouse Fire

A fire at a Hammond warehouse caused by chemical explosions killed one firefighter and injured at least 25. Francis Volk, 32, died from a skull fracture while collisions and falling debris injured others in subzero weather. Firemen battled the blaze for over six hours before it was controlled.

White Christmas assured as five more inches fall in Indiana

Jackson County residents were assured of a white Christmas as five inches of fresh snow added to existing coverage. Snow drifts were limited, but roads were snow packed in places. State highways in the Seymour district remained passable with plowing continuing through today. Frost and subfreezing temperatures lingered with a slow moderating trend forecast for the week ahead.

Woman Hurt Walking To Work In Snow Collision

A 50 year old woman, Irene Anderson of 331 Hancock Street, was struck while walking to the F Jacobson and Son shirt factory on East Tipton Street as a snow covered street limited visibility. Driver Kenneth Pruett said he did not see her in time. she was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. A second snow related collision on West Second Street left two cars damaged but no injuries.

Final Seymour Council Session Tonight

Mayor John C. Isaacs and the Democratic council meet at City Hall for the last regular session of the current administration at 7 30 p m. Isaacs will close his eighth straight year as chief executive after more than 191 regular sessions. The administration passes to Mayor-elect James L. Laupus and a Republican council January 1. Four current officials will be present as the new administration begins. Miss Gaynelle Moritz, Democrat, is reelected city clerk treasurer and secretary to the council, with Clar ence Stark Jr and Harold E. Riley also reelected. Elder Bobb, the lone Republican, will serve in the new majority. No major business is planned for the final session. Laupus completes a term as city judge.

Court Actions Close October Term Of Jackson Circuit Court

The Jackson Circuit Court closed its October term for a two week holiday break. January term opens January 6 with jury lists to be drawn December 30. Cases heard include robbery plea by Jack Green with trial set for February 19, assault and battery plea by Thomas Frazee, and guilty pleas with fines for George Wheeler and Arthur Nolan.
