Preparations for Christmas are concentrated in one section today with observers predicting a fine holiday. Stores report abundant cedar decora tions electric garlands and tree novelties in stock despite renewed demand for several vintage decorations.
The Daily Tribune will publish its Annual Christmas Greeting edition on Tuesday with messages from local concerns. Seymour Exchange Club to distribute Christmas baskets Tuesday afternoon. Roads clear after winter conditions. state highways still icy southward. Stores stocked with toys and war shortages ended. heavy demand for apparel. Some retailers close at 6 pm Tuesday.
The third annual Brown Chevrolet Christmas party at the Elks Home on Carter Street drew 47 attendees including employees and their families. R. J. Brown Sr. presided as Frank Reddie performed on a Hammond organ, gifts were distributed, and bonus checks were given to staff for a festive evening.
Christmas packages fell from the sky to American troops cut off by the Tanabe and Kushimoto earthquake. The mail routes were blocked, so two air delivery men Lt. Robert L. Brett of Seattle and Lt. George Alms of Indiana completed the gifts.
Deer struck by unknown vehicle on U S Route 50 west of Seymour injured a 200 pound buck. It dragged off the highway, was killed by E T Schneider, and dressed by Herbert Anderson. The meat will be served to Jackson county infirmary residents for Christmas.
A series of crashes on U S Route 31 one mile north of Reddington during icy conditions left four motorists fined and three injured. Investigations involving Detective Don Winn and a parked state police car led to multiple reckless driving charges against drivers from Illinois Kentucky and Tennessee. Total damage to the MacDonald vehicle was noted as part of the incident.
Funeral services were held in Middletown Ohio for William Arthur Thomas 86 father of W A Thomas of Seymour. He suffered a stroke a week earlier and died Friday night in Middletown after visiting Seymour with his son and family. He was the only child. Mr and Mrs Thomas attended the services.
A holiday driven surge has Seymour post office handling heavy incoming and outgoing mail with minimal delays. City carriers worked with helpers to move the bulk quickly, while parcel post reached most city areas except downtown. Christmas Day will be a holiday with limited service though parcel deliveries occur Christmas morning.

Cpl. Chester R. Perkins, blinded in Germany, arrived in Indianapolis from Valley Forge General Hospital with his wife Janet and parents for a two week fur lough. He spoke of letters from across the country after requesting two bright blue eyes from Santa, a wish doctors say cannot be fulfilled.
Snow that covered the countryside last week melted over the weekend and forecasters predict little to no snow for Christmas in most of the nation. The Chicago Weather Bureau notes snow may be absent across Pennsylvania Ohio and West Virginia by Tuesday morning as temperatures cool from a recent warm spell.
Ellen MacAdoo De Onate Hinshaw, 31, a former child in the White House and granddaughter of Woodrow Wilson, died in a Santa Monica hospital after telephoning a friend. Her lawyer Sid Cherniss and Dr Leon Kahn said she had hinted at death by own action due to financial and family problems.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports mid November food prices reached a record 1.5 percent above the June 1920 peak. The food price index rose 4.3 percent from October to November to 187.7 percent of the 1935 39 average, about 35 percent higher than a year earlier. Prices of fats and oils surged 5 percent with lard nearly doubling, while pork bacon averaged 76 cents per pound.
Don A. Bollinger announces a year end bonus for all regular employees of Seymour Woolen Mills totaling about 10000. The payout depends on hours worked from January 1 to November 30 1946 plus service length. Bonuses range 15 to 30 dollars per period with extra five year service increments and a 5 dollar addition for employees since December 1 1946.
The U S Chamber of Commerce says it will mobilize 2 000 member organizations to push Congress to curb retroactive pay claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938. The effort follows the Mt. Clemens portal to portal ruling and potential multi‑billion dollar suits by unions against manufacturers and energy firms.
Harley Gruber of Seymour Al posted the top 1946 county corn yield in Jackson's contest with 97.66 bushels per acre on 23 acres. Victor Turmai of Wallonia Driftwood township was second at 97 bushels per acre, followed by Augustus Mellencamp of Seymour R4 Hamilton township at 89.20. J M Hinderlider of Medora Carr township placed fourth with 70.18 bushels.

A US Navy ship in Dairen, Manchuria, left port after receiving a verbal ultimatum from Soviet military officials to depart within 20 minutes. American businessman Jesse L. Poole and two American reporters were blocked from landing as Soviet forces maintain control and refuse requests routed via Washington and the American consul general.
