The Christmas break begins with a final pre holiday rush as shoppers flock to stores and the Yuletide mood grows. The Daily Tribune will skip a Christmas Day edition with a Christmas Eve greeting from businesses, and office operations pause on Christmas Day.
John W Wheeler aged 72 died Sunday morning at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin after a two month illness. He lived in Indianapolis for decades before returning to Seymour in 1936 and was born September 24 1868 in Freetown. He worked as assistant superintendent for Prudential Insurance in Indianapolis. Funeral services and Masonic rites were to be held in Franklin at 2 30 this afternoon.
Santa Claus Indiana faced a hectic pre Christmas period with peak tourist and mail surges expected through December 25 in the town famed by its Christmas name residents anticipated no relief until after December 25 The Associated Press notes the Sabbath holiday brought the largest influx of visitors and mail as the community braced for continued busy days ahead.
Seymour Rotary Club will hold no program at tonight's regular meeting. The dinner will be served at 6 15 with members urged to attend to boost attendance. The lapse offers businessmen a chance to return to their stores and others to shop for Christmas gifts.

Burial services were held for infant twin daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest H. Wyckoff at Riverview Cemetery. The newborns, born Saturday night, were treated at Sehneck Memorial Hospital. one died Sunday morning at 6 and the other at 1:30 this morning. The parents are Ernest T H and Maude Johnson Wyckoff of 10S South Walnut Street.
Three principals Lyn Craig Raymond Korte and Roland Weir freed after serving part of eight year terms for embezzlement false entry and misappropriation tied to a million dollar southern Indiana bank windle. They were released from Atlanta Federal Penitentiary and reportedly back in Indiana.
Milton Leonard Hawkins of Mosleyville Ky is sentenced to face the death penalty after a Floyd Circuit Court jury in New Albany recommended it for first degree murder in the kidnap robbery slaying of 36 year old F mund Davis a Jeffersonville taxicab driver Seymour witnesses including Detective Raymond Bell helped solve the case with action centered around the Seymour post.
Pilot Bud Hussey and a North American Aviation combat training plane bound for the Canadian Royal Air Force vanished after takeoff from Palmdale California. The other 15 ferried ships were readied to continue with an air search abandoned overnight after covering over 20 000 square miles. The last report said Hussey and the other pilot were together before a cloud bank over a mountain forced a turn south.
The Ingomevie program at the American Legion Majestic Christmas party will feature Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy in a feature length comedy. A three Stooves comedy, a Merrie Melodie Technicolor cartoon and Popeye complete the film lineup. Legion members join Boy Scouts in supervising the children invited to the Tuesday 10 o'clock event.
