In a drizzly weekend, a Pennsylvan ia Railroad passenger train struck a 1941 sedan at the Second Street crossing in Seymour. Mrs Enola Smith and her 6 year old passenger were not hospitalized. The driver and another vehicle owner reported minor injuries and minor damages as the car was hurled onto Indianapolis Avenue.

Carl Shaw aged 70 died shortly before noon Sunday at his North Vernon R5 home after nine weeks illness. Funeral services are set for 10 AM Tuesday from his residence with Rev. George L. Florence officiating. Burial will be in a Defoe Kentucky cemetery. He moved to Jennings County in 1938 and was a farmer and CHurch member. Survived by widow Mildred Shasteen, one son J T Shaw, one grandchild Phillip Ray Shaw, two step grandchildren Bonnie Jo and Sharon Rae Calhoun, and one daughter preceded him in death.

Man Held After bus Driver Hurt
John Satchwill 49 of Aurora Indiana was jailed in Jackson County on charges of assault and battery with intent to commit a felony after attacking Greyhound driver Thomas Creeden of Silverton Ohio at a station Saturday night. Creeden, treated at Schneck Memorial Hospital for facial cuts, was released Sunday. Satchwill had just finished a six month sentence at the Indiana state penal farm. Other city court actions included Noblitt guilty of reckless driving with fines and license suspension, Hesson fined for DUI, Amburgey public intoxication, Neace guilty for disorderly conduct, and Coker guilty for disorderly conduct.

Robert L. Hill boatswain's mate third class USN son of Charles E. Hill of Seymour Indiana arrived in San Diego as a crew member of USS LST 1083 after a nine month Korean theater tour. The ship, part of the Pacific Fleet Amphibious Force, previously reinforced Koje Island during POW riots and took part in Operation Spreadout relocating prisoners. It also conducted training, supply lifts, and resupply runs to UN held islands north of the battle line.

Morgan Pettit 72 of Columbus, long time resident and father of Mrs. Frank Mattox, died Sunday after an 18 month illness at Bartholomew County Hospital. Born October 13, 1880 in Idaville, he worked from 1905 at Dan Patch Factory Connersville earning patent rights for the Dan Patch coaster wagon. He later worked in Lexington autos and retired in 1948 from Arvin Industries. Survived by widow Anna Reynolds, daughter in Columbus, son Robert E. Pettit Garden City, daughter Mrs. Clarence Finke Edinburg, one brother Cloyd Pettit, sisters Mrs. David Hanna Monticello and Mrs. Pearl McClellan Indianapolis, seven grandchildren. He was a Baptist and Moose Lodge member.
