Seymour and Jackson county recorded the season’s coldest night as temperatures dropped to six degrees above zero, seven degrees below the previous low. Snow began Thursday, forecast flurries could leave enough snow for a white Christmas, while roads remained hazardous in spots.
Mrs. Wilhelmina Redicker age seventy seven longtime Jackson county resident died Thursday afternoon at the home of her daughter Mrs Henry Oberman in Brownstown after a two week illness following a stroke of apoplexy. She was born July 21 1867 near Brownstown daughter of Herman H and Elizabeth Tormoehler Steinkamp. She married George Redicker in January 1890 at Wegan, who preceded her in death four years ago. A faithful member of Wegan Lutheran Church she spent her life in the Brownstown and Wegan areas and was well known by many friends.
Funeral services were held this week for Louis W. Boss Tiemeier thirty three proprietor of a Seymour jewelry store. He died after a three month illness attributed to heart disease. He was widely known and his death shocked many friends.
Jackson county motorists will get mailed applications for 1945 automobile license plates. Secretary of State Rue J. Alexander announced that over 1,020,000 applications are ready for mailing after the Christmas rush. Each motor vehicle owner on record will receive two applications.
Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Harrison age eighty four former Seymour resident were conducted at 10 o clock this morning from St Am brose Catholic Church here. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery. She is survived by three children Mrs O W Lewis of Wheeling West Va John Harrison and Hulda Harrison both of Indianapolis two sisters Mrs Sarah Wilson and Mrs Julia Lee four grandchildren Mrs Lloyd Kent Helen Lewis Katherine Lewis and William H Lewis shipfitter second class with the U S Navy and three great grandchildren.
Seymour fire crews were summoned twice with damage reported only at the old chair factory at Ninth and Chestnut where a wiring short on the second floor caused some damage. Later they responded to Paristyle store on North Chestnut where a rubber burning odor triggered the call.
Rev Edwin F Shake spoke to the Seymour Lions Club on the meaning behind the word Lions and its five guiding words Liberty Intelligence Our Nation s Safety He noted the club s origins in 1917 and the 1919 international meeting that adopted the slogan and ethics.
H O Nixon of Browns Town urges community action for flood prevention. He lists eight steps: grow brush in ravines, plant gullies with trees, keep livestock from woodlots, learn soil conservation, build small dams, spread runoff to encourage infiltration, prevent fire in meadows, and study water conservation. He stresses neighbor cooperation and local initiative over waiting for federal or state funding.
The sanctuary at St. Pauls Congregational Church is redecorated with a new auditorium, ivory ceiling, cream walls, and varnished wainscoting. First service in the upgraded space will be the morning worship this Sunday followed by a 7 30 pm Christmas program. a new honor roll, U S flag, and Christian flag were also added.

Word from War Department lists Cpl Charles R Forgey as one of forty Indiana soldiers wounded in the European theater. He was wounded in France on October 3 and recuperating in an English hospital. A tank division member, he has served two years with basic training in Washington and overseas since last year. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. C C Forgey of Freetown, report two other sons in service, Seaman Robert Forgey in the Philippines and Cpl Vernon Forgey overseas.
Boiler repairs at Immanuel Lutheran Church and School nearly finished and heating to be restored tonight. Heating expected for Sunday services with the annual Christmas Eve program at 7 o clock, featuring children and a sermon titled The Most Wonderful Child. Palm Cafe to be closed Christmas Day.
A 15 000 to 20 000 strong ELAS army moves toward Rightist Zervas forces in Epirus and near Yanina Chriskos Ridge. Zervas reports Albanian elements among attackers as British authorities note tensions and prisoner evacuations from ELAS.
US Air Forces report a large B29 strike against Hatsudoki and other Nagoya aircraft plants with Tokyo claiming minimal damage. Mindoro airfields in the Philippines host daylight operations as MacArthur’s ground forces push toward Leyte for a seven day drive that has left 11,327 Japanese dead.
Seymour city through the board of public works and safety advertised for two long wheelbase truck chassis and one ten foot metal dump body for the street department. Sealed bids are due Thursday morning January 4 in Mayor Burkart's office. Two 1929 street trucks will be traded in.
Joe Gill announces a holiday party at the Seymour Boys' Club Friday night December 29 starting at 6. Attendees must register at the club and bring their own plate spoon and cup. The club will be open Tuesday Wednesday and Friday next week and resumes regular schedule January 2.
A Hoosier Marine in the Pacific, Sergeant Victor E. Brandt of Seymour, will be highlighted on the Hoosiers at War program on Station WFBM Indianapolis at 5 30 Saturday afternoon. Brandt, 28, enlisted in 1942 and trained in San Diego before overseas service. He is married to Zona Brandt of Seymour with two children Joanna and David. He is a Shields High School graduate and former Seymour Woolen Mills employee, son of Elmer H A Brandt and Mrs. Brandt. The overseas transcribed interview concludes the segment.
