Scott Trio Face Burglary Charges in Store Break-In
Charles Owens age 46 and his sons John 24 and Oren 22 were arrested during a break in at Carl Scott’s Austin store. They were captured inside and outside with two empty wheat sacks as deputies and a night officer secured the scene. Owens had prior prison time and parole status. Oren previously served at Pendleton for blackmail.

John Wright fifty of Indianapolis was released into Indianapolis relatives by Columbus police who stopped him while borrowing a knife to commit self harm. Police stated he has a history of mental disturbance and had sent letters to his mother and sister to meet him in Indianapolis. He had been in Tennessee before attempting to reach the Rockford bus stop and was then traced by officers in Indiana and Ohio before being taken in Columbus where he claimed to be a missionary.

Three Killed as Erie Train Wrecks South of Lima
Erie Railroad No. 7 plowed through a signal tower two miles south of Lima while traveling from New York to Chicago at about seventy mph. Nine cars and the engine derailed and overturned, two cars caught fire. Engineers Scott and Swihart of Indiana died in the cab. Aldrich of Lima was killed in the tower. One passenger, Miss Georgia Deerwester, was treated for severe cuts.
