Jackson County drew 62 prospective jurors for Jackson Circuit Court's first quarter 1973 term. Of them 50 will serve on the petit jury and 12 on the grand jury. Tax Funds Distributed in Jackson County November Installment
Jackson County auditor Lynn Roberts Jr reports 2,742,446.97 in taxes paid by property owners banks and lending institutions were distributed to five incorporated units and 12 townships. Seymour corporation received 1,159,743.67 for its area and will flow to Seymour city schools libraries and taxing units. Other distributions include Brownstown township 152,729.44 Carr township 64,447.05 and Driftwood township.

Nine Die In Plane Crash At O Hare In Fog
At O Hare International Airport a collision between a North Central DC9 and a Delta Convair 880 in fog killed nine people and injured others. The North Central jet had 45 aboard and the Delta 86 passengers plus seven crew. Airport officials reported limited visibility and the runway collision halted traffic for about 55 minutes as survivors escaped via emergency chutes.

Christian Homes Inc of Lincoln Illinois plans a 1.5 million rest home in Brownstown Indiana for 100 residents and 20 retirement apartments. Evan Bolejack and George Gahr will explain plans at a January 8 meeting at Brownstown Christian Church.

Winter Arrives Amid Cloudy Indiana Forecast
Winter moved into Jackson County and much of Indiana at 1 13 pm as the state enters the shortest day of the year. The National Weather Service warned of mainly cloudy cool conditions with possible Saturday showers and freezing temperatures Saturday night. The Central Indiana period Sept 22 to Dec 20 saw 37 cloudy and five sunny days, three months of below normal temps and above normal rainfall. Ruth Everhart reported a 42 degree daytime high and 38 overnight low on Wednesday.

Christmas Basket Fund Tops Two Thousand Dollars Again
The Christmas Basket Fund surpassed 2000 dollars for the second consecutive year with a total of 2007.07 dollars after 45 dollars in donations today. Pollert treasurer of Seymour National Bank and the Seymour Daily Tribune co sponsor the drive. baskets will be delivered Friday to needy families, and late gifts may be brought to the Tribune office or bank today.

Seymour board approves supplies contracts and city hall remodeling
In a regular meeting the Seymour board of public works and safety awarded bids for city supplies and remodeling. Meshberger Stone Inc and Berry Materials won stone bids, Spray Sand and Gravel for sand and gravel, L P Cavett Co for bituminous materials and street resurfacing, and Atlantic Richfield for gasoline and oil. W J Abraham & Sons won redecorating bids totaling 1999.32 dollars. The board also discussed reserving two parking spaces for AAA Cab Co at 108 North Chestnut and approved sewer connection and sewage treatment for Robert A. Dar.

Jackson County Board Ends 1972 Sessions
The Jackson County board of commissioners met in Brownstown to close unfinished business for the year. They approved November and December claims and discussed a county ambulance service starting January 1, 1973. The group also okayed remodeling a jail area to store a rescue boat and planned the January 1 reorganizing meeting at 9 a.m. at the courthouse.
