Thieves pried a rear door lock and stole gloves scarves and many empty Christmas gift boxes from a small outside display at Richart's clothing store on East Second street. John Richart confirms the loss, noting several recent city thefts.
Allen Nierman of Brownstown chosen as deputy prosecutor for Jackson Circuit Court next term. A Valparaiso University graduate, he opened a Brownstown law office after six years of study and holds Indiana bar admission plus Supreme Court practice certificate. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Nierman and a Brownstown High School graduate with several scholastic honors.
The annual Christmas Greeting edition will publish Monday. It offers merchants and others a chance to express appreciation and extend Yuletide wishes to the public. Readers will enjoy messages of sincere service from many establishments represented in this edition.
The outgoing Seymour city council plans a 9 o clock Monday morning special session to approve unpaid bills. Five members depart January 1 and five new members will be sworn in New Year’s Day with the first meeting that night.
Franklin Owls face Franklin High School in a local gym tonight after battling two tough state opponents. Coach Surface drills the lineup as Stewart, McLaughlin, Davis, Hall, Demas, Smith, and Hutchens may start. Franklin plans a strong turnout to witness the game.

Charles Reed nineteen held in Seymour city jail on second degree burglary and robbery charges linked to the Cordes Hardware Store break in. Reed was arrested Monday in Scottsburg with a revolver. a 22 caliber gun and a stolen flashlight tied to the Cordes robbery were found in his possession. Preliminary hearing set for Saturday morning.
Mrs. U. Kaempf sister of Rev J Th Destinen pastor of Sayers Lutheran Church died in Cecil Wisconsin after a brief illness. Funeral services were to be held at 1 o clock Saturday at Cecil with burial there. Survived by mother Mrs A Destinen of Milwaukee husband in Cecil son Hubert of Cecil. brothers Rev Mr Destinen of Sauers Hugo Destinen Los Angeles Connie Destinen Milwaukee. sisters Mrs Paul Zindah and Miss Nannie Destinon Milwaukee.

A new sedan owned by We Wershner of Columbus overturned on a curve on U S Road 31 just north of Peter's Switch around 1 o'clock Thursday night. Wershner and several young companions suffered minor bruises. a spotlight from an oncoming car blinded him, preventing a safe stop on Seymour bound trip.
Shelbyville Tenn Dec 21 The Bedford County sheriff defied threats of violence and kept working with a guard of thirty Tennessee militiamen following Wednesday’s riot that left three dead. Sheriff T F Gant and deputy son John E F Gant returned to the jail, saying they would continue their duties despite calls for more violence and noting a lull in the unrest.
An extraordinary court session sped the trial of Martin Insull on embezzlement charges as jurors debated the MiddleWest Utilities treasury withdrawal. Prosecutors labeled the act theft while defense and state attorneys argued sharply into the pre-dawn hours.
