Passage Of New Tax Bill Nears Christmas Approval
Washington AP reports a large tax bill advancing in Congress before Christmas. It would raise the personal exemption to 750 by 1973 and boost Social Security benefits for about 25 million Americans by 15 percent across the board. Nixon warned against a too generous measure while Senate action trimmed several costly items including college credits and oil depletion rules. The bill also raises capital gains taxes, tightens loopholes, and provides a temporary 5 percent surtax.

A public hearing is set for Thursday January 15 at 7 30 p m in the Pleasant Run Township High School gym Heltonville to review design plans for a 12 367 mile extension of Ind 446 by the Indiana State Highway Commission Federal and state relocation aid and tentative schedules will be discussed State highway officials will be available from 1 30 to 5 p m in the school cafeteria for individual explanations and talks The project includes a new 24 foot pavement in an uncontrolled right of way corridor bridges over Leatherwood Creek and Little Salt Creek and several smaller structures The route runs from a former Army Corps of Engineers segment north of the county line southeast to U S 50 west of Jackson Lawrence county line with Heltonville east side notes of a previous hearing in December 1966 and a later turn design hearing.
