Brick Mason Credited With Saving Teacher

Indianapolis authorities credit brick mason Roy G. Burris 40 with pulling teacher Sharon Roach 21 from a wall of flaming gasoline after a tanker jackknifed and overturned in a fiery crash. The collision killed five people including the truck driver Orval Hurley 51 who died from burns. The blaze evacuated thousands as firefighters contained the inferno and Burris assisted Roach to safety before being treated for burns.

County Schools Share of Tax Money Totals $65 282 97 Across Jackson County

County auditor Russell Goen announced a total distribution of 65 282 97 from the county wide school tax based on average daily attendance. Seymour Community Schools received 35 891 18 for 3 695 80 daily attendees. Other shares include Brownstown Central 14 414 55 and Vernon Township 6 829 41 with per pupil distributions of 9 71.

Austin School Vacations Set For Christmas Break

Austin students will start Christmas vacation at noon Thursday and return to classes at regular times in January. Grades one to three dismiss at 11 30 am and grades four to six at 11 45 am. At noon seventh through twelfth grades dismiss. Bus schedules follow dismissal times.

Christmas Basket Fund Nears $1000 Mark

The 48th annual Christmas Basket Fund in Seymour receives eight donations totaling 35 dollars, bringing the total to 956.75 with three days left. Donations support baskets of food and toys for needy Seymour families, sponsored by American Legion Post No. 89 and the Daily Tribune.

He cited five overnight home entries and warned unlocked homes risk thefts and potential violence. a car theft in Indianapolis involved a missing key and linked to a murder case.

Marion Township Transfer Decision Delayed Until January

Western Marion township residents in Jennings County await a January Jennings County school board meeting to decide if students will transfer to Crothersville. A December referendum showed 160 favoring Jennings County schools and 142 favoring Crothersville, with split results by township and residency. A joint district board vote is needed to finalize the annexation plan.

Fund Set To Aid Trooper's Family

A memorial fund is established in Greensburg to aid the family of slain Indiana state trooper William Ko Rayner 30. Rayner died after stopping a stolen car on Inter state 7 near Greensburg. The fund supports his widow Rhea Dawn Rayner who is due to have their third child in three months.
