Noltings IGA Foodliner employees raised 22.25 by charging a nickel for coffee over two months. The gift boosts Seymour Christmas Basket Fund to 547.25 toward the 700 goal, supporting local families in need. Volkswagen Roars Down Runway At Los Angeles Airport

LOS ANGELES AP reports a giant jet roared down the runway at International Airport followed by a VW sedan driven by Leo Ambrose O Hearn. Police chased the car and arrested the 38 year old on a charge of being drunk on airport property after a Christmas party.

Seymour board awards contracts for city materials and fuels

The Seymour board of public works and safety awarded contracts for street materials to five suppliers and fuel and lubricants to Sunray DX Oil Company for about 20 000 gallons of gasoline and 10 000 gallons of diesel with specified discounts. Other major oil firms bidding included American Oil, Sinclair Refining and Marathon Oil. Five road builders Berry Materials, Spray Sand and Gravel, Meshberger Stone, L P Cavett, and Ralph Rogers were also awarded bids for gravel sand stone and bituminous materials.

Jackson 4-H Youth Among Top Winners

A Jackson County freshman at Purdue and a Seymour R3 girl were among top vegetable variety trial winners at the National Junior Vegetables Growers Association convention. Hoosier youths led a clean sweep with Marilyn Reichart of Lafayette and Carole Goecker earning top honors after summer plots and Purdue seed kits.

Shields Junior High Holds Christmas Convocation

West Berliners streamed through the wall to East Berlin for a one day visit during Christmas crossings. More than 1,000 had passed through three hours after barriers were briefly lifted, with up to 800,000 expected to travel before the deadline.
