Eccentric Held In Jail After Three Neighbors Die
Angolan police questioned 40 year old Merlin McNaughton in a spree that killed Fred Peter son and Ronald Peter son both 53 and 24 and farmhand Mervin Forrester 48. Two victims were found 18 hours after the shootings. Preston Bradley 38 and wife Nancy 38 were wounded and their daughter Cathy 4 unharmed. McNaughton wore pillows in a bid to stop bullets and spoke little offering only Scripture. Local sheriff described him as a mental case with an obsession that everyone in Ray was out to get him.

Firemen Quell Dangerous Blaze in Gas Truck Engine
Seymour firemen twice extinguished a blaze in the engine of a truck trailer carrying gasoline for Ashland Oil Co. The 6 p m call led to smothering the fire near Tipton and Poplar streets. Driver Virgil Newton pulled the rig away. a second ignition on Tipton Street was quickly put out. The fire likely started from a faulty fuel pump and damaged the engine wiring.
