Downtown Seymour to dim show windows on Christmas Eve
In Seymour the merchants division of the Chamber of Commerce proposes turning off all show window and neon lights in downtown stores at closing time on Christmas Eve. Some shops close at 5 and 5 30 pm to allow workers to be with families while street lights and holiday decorations stay on until midnight. The plan honors the Seymour Ministerial Association union service at 11 pm and other church programs. Regular hours remain in effect for these stores to observe holidays and worship. Stores stay open nightly until 9 pm through Tuesday.

Pvt Elmer Ross son of Mrs Laura May Ross of Seymour Indiana has been selected to attend the Field Wiremans school at Camp Chaffee Arkansas. The eight week course includes map reading basic electricity 32 hours of pole climbing and final week of practical maneuvers with an infantry regiment and supporting artillery battalion. Ross was a Seymour employee before entering the Army and has just completed eight weeks of basic training.

Two Autos Collide As One Backs From Curb
A car backing from the curb on East Chestnut street collided with a passing vehicle causing about 40 dollars damage to the other car. Audrey C. Stearns, 48, of North Vernon R4, was backing from the curb and hit Ruth Wheeler, 421 Ewing Street, as Wheeler drove north on Chestnut. Stearns’ car was undamaged. City police investigated.

Indiana homeowners to receive tax refund on mortgages
Indiana taxpayers who paid gross income tax on mortgages on homes sold in the last three years will soon receive refunds. Revenue Commissioner Conn J. Sterling said the state will not seek rehearings of two South Bend cases in which the Indiana Supreme Court ruled the tax illegal.
