Roettger Wins Jackson County 4-H Corn Exhibit Again
Henry Roettger of Brownstown township repeated as county 4-H corn champion at the School House in Brownstown. James Stahl and John Wesley Spurgeon finished second and third. Twenty-nine boys completed corn projects yielding 15,698 bushels on 206 acres at an average cost of 63 cents per bushel. The exhibit featured 30 ears of corn judged for market quality with yellow varieties favored for moisture and shelling percentage.

Recount Half Finished GOP Gains in Jackson County
Ballot recount for Jackson County clerk and sheriff in the November 7 election reached midway with Republicans gaining ground. With 21 of 40 precincts recounted, Sheriff candidate George W. Abel led Democratic incumbent George O. Patrick by 23 votes. Clerk Joe W. Goss trailed by 11 votes from the 64 vote margin. Goss has net gained 53 votes since the recount began as officials continue checking precincts.
