Wheat loan deadline set for December 31 1939
Farmers must file applications for 1939 wheat loans by December 31, 1939. Indirect loans through lenders must date before January 1 1940 and papers to CCC must be delivered in person or postmarked before that date. Roof Fire Damages Home on North Broadway
Fire at the home of Mr and Mrs C R Julian at 720 North Broadway caused roof damage about 10 this morning. The fire department, responding to an early alarm, used booster tank water to extinguish the blaze which was fanned by a spark on the shingles. The residence is owned by H B White.
Burglary Solved at Russell Foster Service Station
City police say a youth confessed to breaking into the Russell Foster service station at Third and Chestnut streets Sunday night. He faces reprimand in city court this afternoon after admitting entry through a restroom window and stealing three packs of vizarettes two dollars in cash and three packs of chewing gum.

Tracks South of Seymour Abandoned Ending Interurban Service
Track crews abandoned the Indiana Railroad lines south of Second and Chestnut in Seymour. The last southbound interurban car No. 772, in service about fifteen years, completed its final run at 4 45 p m Tuesday. Baltimore and Ohio Railway workers began removing Chestnut Street crossing arms while Public Service linemen aided. Mayors and company officials joined the final ride, marking the end of passenger and freight service to Louisville after thirty two years.

Trucker Arrested After Allowing Unlicensed Driver to Operate
John J. Timpson of Alto Michigan pleaded guilty to permitting an unlicensed operator to drive his truck. He paid $9.75 in fines and costs after arraignment before Justice of the Peace William Tuell in Seymour. Police radio check showed Timpson had purchased a license but lacked it at the hearing. He had a prior Georgia arrest for failure to stop. Officer Warren A. Tailinger detained him on State Road near the U.S. 31 50 junction.

Langsdorff Ends Life After Loss of Graf Spee
Captain Hans Langsdorff, commander of the Graf Spee, shot himself after the battleship was sunk. The German embassy said he sacrificed his life for the Fatherland, choosing death over capture and stating he would share the ship’s fate in a letter to the German ambassador.
