Attempted kidnaping thwarted as boy escapes
Eightyearold Robert Betz fled Friday night when a man tried to lure him from Seventh and Elm streets to a touringcar vehicle. The suspect group, consisting of two men and a woman, had loitered in the neighborhood earlier, but the plan failed when the boy screamed and ran to Omer Ottes residence. Police and residents noted the attackers lingered nearby, threatening future abduction. Nearby reports briefly suggested two other children might have been kidnapped, but this possibility was dismissed as located.
