The six first degree murder trial of Royal W. Allman entered its final stage as the defense rested at 1:25 p.m. after calling 15 witnesses. Prosecutor Kline and attorney Hoffar prepared closing arguments while jurors await juror instructions and verdict later today or tonight.
A Wallonia native stationed at Fort Benning is listed in fair condition at Schneck Memorial Hospital after a one car crash on U S 50 two miles east of Brownstown. The driver's claim of another vehicle on the center line is noted with the car flipping onto its side and being totaled. Separate minor collision on Interstate 65 involved Jackie Green and Henry Morris with rear fender damage. Another two car crash near Medora damaged the Akeman and Farmer vehicles with about 150 dollars in damage to the Akeman car.
Red Cross certified first aid instructor Robert Demske led a junior first aid course at Immanuel Lutheran School resulting in 52 certificates. Fulton R. Meyer announced more classes in Jackson County after the holidays and lists of recipients include Beverly Ahlbrand Steven Boxman Ruth Brandt Cindy Branigan Ruth Cockrum Thomas Dose Julia Elkins Harold Emily John Emily Judith Fobrink Nancy Goble Donald Goecker and many others.
Two Seymour post officers and one from state police headquarters travel to New London Connecticut to question Gary Rardon 19 of Indianapolis in the James Homer Smith murder case Smith 23 of Trafalgar body found in Pennsylvania last July. Indiana eyes return for grand jury. Military and Pennsylvania authorities claim precedence in handling the suspect. Bardon arrested December 3 in Connecticut for AWOL from the Navy and for possession of Smiths car and documents and faces interstate car theft charges. He was delayed on his way to Connecticut because Sergeant Heuss testified in the Royal Allman murder trial.
Thomas A. Plunkett, chair of the 44th annual Christmas Basket Fund, announces the Majestic Theater in Seymour will host the Kiddie Show on Monday December 24 at 10 am with Santa and a charity film. Basket fund donations reached 700.20 from 17 gifts, led by a 25 gift from Jack Duntee Chevrolet Oldsmobile.
A Seymour R2 woman, Mrs Wesford Hopper 60, is in fair condition at Schneck Memorial Hospital after a sweater caught fire while boiling water on an electric range. She was admitted at 7 15 a m with first and second degree burns on her right shoulder back and arm.
Charles Barnette, 37, of Indianapolis, was arrested for public intoxication and pleaded guilty before Judge James L. Laupus. He was fined $15 and costs, then ordered to serve the fine at Brownstown jail at $5 per day. A Seymour man, 51, arrested on a similar charge, was released on bond.

Tiffanys displays the diamond while Hammacher Schlemmer touts the Something Box for 25 dollars. Other stores list chinchilla items, ornate accessories, and novelty goods across the country. Even modest novelty items like a turtle leash attract curious buyers amid holiday temptations.
Gabri el Richard Trifari, 26, confessed to bludgeoning his father Maxim Trifari 60 Ca, mother Maria Trifari 60, brother Maxim Jr. 28, and sister Olga 36 at the Trifari chicken farm in Freehold New Jersey. He told police God urged him to act and was jailed pending examination.
Jackson Lodge No. 146 Free and Accepted Masons hosts a Christmas party for members' children at 7:30 p m Thursday in the dining room on the second floor of the Masonic Temple West Second Street. Mothers and fathers are invited. Gene Pearson worshipful master announces Santa Claus will attend and treats plus special entertainment are planned.
President Kennedy flies to Nassau for talks with British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan. They discuss Western alliance strains and Cold War tensions including the Skybolt missile program, Sino Soviet split, and potential U S Soviet relations while the Bahamas visit signals a high level diplomacy effort. Kennedy notes no quick understanding with Khrushchev and warns against complacency while criticizing Skybolt funding and defense plans amid NATO divisions.
At the Jackson County Schneck Memorial Hospital board meeting, trustees will review bids in nine supply groups. Bids were accepted until 6 p.m. Monday covering office and printing, dairy, meat, poultry, groceries, produce, baked goods, laundry, and therapeutic oxygen and nitrous oxide.
The Communist Party is convicted on 12 counts for failing to register as a Soviet agent and fined 120000. Jurors heard the case in minutes. the party may appeal to the Court of Appeals and, if needed, the Supreme Court.
Jackson County labor council contributed 50 to the Jackson County Civil Defense police organization after members attended its regular meeting. James E. Lucas presided, Norval Cummins spoke, and Ancel Ratcliff noted rising Civil Defense interest. Sup ly Sergeant Smallwood accepted the check.
