Two Year Old Girl Fatally Burned In Medora Fire
A Medora two year old girl died at Louisville Children’s Hospital after burns covering 98 percent of her body from a house fire near Sparksville that also injured her parents and a half-brother. Donetta Gardner’s death followed transfer from Schneck Memorial Hospital. In a separate Medora fire, an 80 year old man, John Lonsberry, suffered severe back burns and was listed in serious condition after an explosion and fire that destroyed his cabin.

Crothersville and Redding Township volunteers fought a two hour blaze four miles north of Crothersville on a Vernon township road. Allen Hercamp’s two story brick dwelling lost its roof and fire officials estimated replacement costs exceed the home's value. Insurance partly covered the loss.

Grand Jury Called For Tuesday in Jackson Circuit Court
Judge John M. Lewis ordered the Jackson County grand jury to convene at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the request of County Prosecutor Earl C. Kline. The session may focus on an ongoing criminal probe, after prior investigations into the murders of Officer Donald M. Winn Gerry Shibe and Marilyn Rice. Willie Ruth, 18, pleaded guilty to two counts of second degree burglary with pre sentence review pending. He admitted breaks at Burnside’s Garage Nichols Service Station Rudolph's Barber Shop and Butler’s Restaurant in Freetown.

Seymour Daily Tribune reports the 43rd annual Christmas Basket Fund is $435 behind 1960 totals with $291.16 on the books nine contributions totaling $33 reported. Fund leaders urge community support through churches, clubs, and businesses as final week begins. Donations are accepted at Seymour National Bank and the Tribune office. Toys are being collected at Seymour Boys' Club for refurbishing.

Father Of Local Teacher Killed In Crash Sunday
Samuel D. Honn 54 of Lowell Indiana father of Lola Mae Honn a Seymour Community Schools physical education teacher died after a crash at the U S 40 and U S 30 intersection in Schererville Indiana. Honn was driving north on U S 41 and failed to stop for a red light colliding with Laula Jablonski 70 of Crown Point whose car spun into a semi driven by Ross Jarrett 40 of Indianapolis. Honn was thrown under the semi and died. The Jablonski driver and the semi driver sustained minor injuries while other motorists involved escaped unharmed. Funeral plans were not learned. He leaves a widow and daughter plus three sisters and one deceased sibling. He was a Christian and a Mason. he had visited Seymour last week before returning to work.

Mrs Simeon Bryant aged 39 of West Laurel Street was treated for a left knee laceration after a downtown Sey mour street crossing fall and released. Jeffrey A Scott three year old son of Mr and Mrs Bobby Scott of Freetown had a rubber tire fragment removed from his nose at 9 15 a m Saturday and released.

Brazil Circus Fire Kills 250 in Rio State Tent Disaster
A nylon circus tent fire in Niteroi near Rio de Janeiro killed an estimated 250 people and injured about 500 as 2,500 watched. Gov. Celso Pecanha said arson was suspected while rescue efforts overwhelmed Niteroi hospitals and airlifted victims to Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. Surviving trapeze artists described escaping the blaze moments after it began.
