Fire damages city residence on West Fourth Street
Damage amounting to several hundred dollars occurred at 317-319 West Fourth Street a twelve room double house owned by Mrs. J B Hull. The eastern half housed Mrs Hull and the western half lived by Mr and Mrs Donald Wever and family. Fire started from a shingle roof spark and gained headway before discovery. Downtown stores begin their annual Christmas night shopping with some open until 9 PM and others closing earlier or later. The announcement notes selective late hours for participating shops in the downtown district.
Christmas tree lighted in front of Chestnut Street shops
Otis Shannon of the Legion committee placed and lit a Christmas tree on the west side of Chestnut Street near Second Street Tuesday afternoon. The theater section, led by Rev. L Dewey Barham, coordinates with the Legion for a holiday party. On December 24 at 2 pm children will attend a free matinee at the Majestic and Rialto theaters in coordination with food and toy drives. Food goes to Seymour Welfare Association and usable toys to Francis Murray to be refurbished for distribution by the Legion. Santa Claus may join the event if his schedule allows.

Truck Involved Crash Burns After Overturn Near Peter's Switch
A semi trailer overturned on U S Road 31 about a fourth of a mile northeast of Peter's Switch injuring the driver whose name could not be learned. The truck left the road, knocked down four fence posts, and burned except for the motor, trailer, and cargo which included bicycles. Nearest residents Harry Mellencamp and Dan Kiel aided the unconscious driver and reported a serious neck injury while awaiting transport. The truck carried a 1936 Indiana license No. 1966 and appeared to have left the road after possibly falling asleep.
