Freight Line Plan Promoted for Air Transport by Gen Mitchell
Brig. Gen. William Mitchell proposed a government backed giant air line linking major U.S. centers with South America and Asia. The $5,000,000 network would develop commercial flying with private buyout of routes later, starting with existing air mail routes and expanding to a PacificChina run. The plan aims to prove costs and safety to spur private investment and reduce subsidies. The project would be War Department controlled and submitted to Congress after War Department approval.

1923 Gold and Silver Consumption and State Output Declines
The 1923 gold consumed in industrial arts totaled 69 292 245 dollars while silver consumption reached 36 824 977 fine ounces. Gold use rose about 10 million from last year while silver use fell about one million ounces. Arizona led state gold production up 2.6 million dollars or 75 percent. Utah and Nevada rose, California dropped 1.29 million, Alaska 634 thousand. Utah yielded 20.5 million ounces of silver about 28 percent of US supply. Jury awards doctors 1800 in medical case verdict
In Chickasaw Oklahoma December 18 a Federal Court jury ruled that charging $100000 for a major operation was excessive. The jury returned a verdict for $1800 in favor of Dr. W. I. Livermore and Dr. D. B. Downey.
