Jackson County auditor Lewis Brumett announced a total of 3 633 734 83 dollars will be distributed to county taxing units as their fall draw from property tax payments. Checks will not be mailed until after Tuesday. The county awaits a state check covering Jackson County’s share of the state property tax replacement program.
Jackson County drainage board will open bids Monday at 1 p m in the Brownstown courthouse surveyor's office for cleaning and brush removal along about 4 800 feet of the Hunsucker Ditch in Driftwood township. The meeting also covers township and corporation distributions totaling 630 594 89 and library and school allocations across the county with Brownstown Carr Medora Driftwood and other townships named.
White River remains stationary as two state highways reopen after high water. Rain is forecast with 100 percent tonight and 60 percent Sunday. Slick roads caused crashes and ice led to a bus driver’s death in Bartholomew County. Ind 258 west of Seymour and Ind 250 between Dudleytown and Uniontown are now passable.

Seymour fire department reports minimal damage in November with 12 255 as total loss including 6230 property and 6025 contents. Firemen answered 18 alarms including commercial location vehicle and residence calls, false alarms and investigations.
The Crothersville Community Choir will present Night of Miracles at 3 p m Sunday in the Crothersville Church of the Nazarene. Directed by Jay Montgomery, the Christmas cantata by John W Peterson features four soloists and a nine member soprano, seven alto, and nine tenor base choir. Sponsored by the Vernon Township Ministerial Association and narrated by Rev Harold Barnett.
The Seymour board of zoning appeals will hold public hearings Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers city hall. Petitions include Tom and Terry Baker seeking ambulance service zoning, Calvary Baptist Church adding to its building, and Donald and Betty Werskey proposing car waxing at home. Several residents will explain alleged unauthorized business operations.

Seymour Post Office aims to celebrate 125th anniversary of mail service with a public open house at the Fourth and Chestnut street facility. A 2 p m program at Seymour High School auditorium will include Judge Frank W. Guthrie and Charles Boswell among other participants. The 1964 post office is the citys fifth location since mail service began.
Health officials warn that unlicensed plumbers are operating in Jackson County risking public facilities. Indiana law enacted in 1972 requires all plumbing contractors to be licensed to perform work.
The Jackson County Mental Health Association finalizes its Christmas Sack Art contest with first place going to Tim Keithley a Browns town second grader. Runner up Damon Davers of Brownstown R2 also a second grader. Monica Otte of Seymour R4 takes third. Ten students receive honorable mention across Brownstown Jackson Cortland school districts.
Jackson County commissioners will tentatively appoint new or continuing members at Monday morning’s meeting in the Brownstown courthouse. Expiring terms include Mrs. Carolyn Kieffer health board, Francis Elliott plan board, Leland Bundy and John Hamer hospital board, and Hilda Smith library board, all ending December 31. Confirmation follows at the January meeting.
Two Liberian flagged supertankers Venoil and Venpet, owned by Bethlehem Steel, were towed to sea after a fog collision off the southeast coast of South Africa. Fires were extinguished, leaks controlled, and 82 crew rescued with two missing. A 6 mile by 2 mile oil slick formed near Storms River.
City police investigated four traffic accidents Friday with no injuries reported. A 1971 truck driven by Thomas E. Murphy collided with Rosa D. Wooten’s 1969 sedan near Indianapolis and St Louis avenues, causing minor front bumper and fender damage. Murphy cited for no operator's license. A second crash at Ewing and Sixth streets involved Kathy Banks and Manuel Valverde. Valverde’s 1972 sedan rolled once, both drivers claimed green light, damage to Valverde’s vehicle estimated at 1500 dollars.
