Three Raise Questions At County Zoning Hearing

At Brownstown the Jackson County zoning hearing drew 10 observers with three voicing objections. Willard Nichter opposed the ordinance and the idea of a plan commission while Earl Smith requested review of recent changes. David Rogier explained key changes on confinement feeding and boundary limits, and Richard Isaacs objected to flood plain restrictions with notes on elevational sites.

Deputies Named For New Auditor In Brownstown

Auditor elect Lynn Roberts Jr announces the first and second deputies for the Brownstown courthouse office. First deputy is Mrs Barbara Burrell of 221 South Ewing Brownstown, a Brownstown Central graduate with bookkeeping and secretarial experience. Second deputy is Mrs Wayne Wilson of Crothersville, a Scottsburg High School graduate who studied executive secretarial work in 1960. Roberts, a Republican, previously served as county auditor and defeated incumbent Russell Goen in the November election.

Seymour Council End Year Approves Fund Transfers

The Seymour common council in its 1968 final session approved a resolution to transfer funds from unused accounts to cover department needs for the balance of the year. Council also authorized investments in five funds with amounts to be determined, and approved seven investments in 91 day and six month U S Treasury bills. Mayor Laupus noted this was the last meeting of 1968 and sent season’s greetings ahead of the Jan 13, 1969 session.

Apollo 8 Flies to Moon in Voyage Training Exercises

Apollo 8 astronauts Col Frank Borman, Capt James Lovell, and Maj William Anders rehearse in a spacecraft trainer for the planned Saturday launch toward a lunar orbit. They will perform engine firings to enter and circularize orbit, then depart after 58 hours, while testing navigation by stars and landmarks and ground tracking precision.

Christmas Basket Fund Surpasses 1967 Pace in Seymour

The 1968 Christmas Basket Fund in Seymour shows $690.17 raised in the first nine days, $143.17 ahead of last year's pace. Donations came from nine contributors including memorials to T. P. Cordes Art and Chuckie and Clarence Emhuff. The drive, led by Harry C. Cherry and Robert Whitsett, runs through Dec. 24 with toy repairs ongoing at the Boys' Club.
