County auditor Russell Goen says checks totaling 1,460,025.76 released Friday cover 1966 property and intangibles taxes. Largest payouts go to Seymour Community Schools and the city of Seymour, with numerous distributions to towns, schools, libraries, and county funds.
The Seymour Ministerial Association hosts a community Christmas Eve worship at First Church of the Nazarene on December 24 from 11 p m to midnight. The Rev B G Wiggs presides, with Dr Stewart H Silver delivering the sermon and Rev Harry H Hashberger reading Scripture. The Central Christian Church choir leads special music under E O Stark.
The 48th annual Christmas Basket Fund climbs to $715 with five days left in Seymour. Donations may be mailed or delivered to LeRoy Pollett at Seymour National Bank or the Daily Tribune office. Toys for baskets should be brought to Seymour Boys Club. fund supports needy Seymour families. sponsored by Seymour American Legion Post No 89 and the Daily Tribune.
Crothersville town officials accepted two sealed bids Friday night for a 1967 four door police sedan to replace the 1965 model. A Crothersville dealer and a Seymour dealer submitted offers. the board will award to the lowest responsible bidder at a 1 p.m. meeting today. The old car will be traded in. the new car to include heater defroster heavy duty battery and alternator with V eight power and automatic transmission. A left side spotlight two way radio and siren will be updated by the winner and the police emblem added to the door.
Christmas mailing peak is forecast for Monday at the Seymour Post Office. Assistant postmaster Charles Hauenschild says both parcel post and letter mail are running well ahead of last year with overtime for staff and extra carriers to handle the load.
In New York a Manhattan judge urged a quick ruling on Mrs. John F. Kennedy's bid to block publication of William Manchester's Death of a President. Manchester and two publishers were ordered to show cause why an injunction should not issue by December 27, with Mrs. Kennedy and Sen. Robert F. Kennedy filing affidavits alleging irreparable harm.
Holt Wilson Jr. opens a small business at 151 South Park Drive offering copying laminating mailing lists and other services. Affiliated with CBSA and aided by 3M training he works about three hours daily and aims to serve individuals and small organizations unmet by others.
Two more candidates filed itemized campaign expense statements with Jackson Circuit Court Clerk Donald E. Manion. Thirty-nine candidates have filed, including 27 Democrats and 12 Republicans. Raymond Abner, Carr township trustee candidate, reported 24 dollars. Harold O. Croquart, county sheriff candidate, reported 624.17 dollars. Deadline for filing is Friday.
Approximately 260 to 270 students will join Seymour Senior High School choral groups for the annual Christmas concert this Thursday December 22 at 8 p.m. in the SSHS auditorium. Advance ticket sales are strong. tickets from choir members or at the door. The program includes pop carols by the Concert Choir Girls Ensemble and General Choir, plus Advanced Choir performing The Greenfield Christmas Tree with eleven cast members. Libretto by Arnold Sundegaarde and music by Douglas Moore.
