Man Burned In Home Fire After Lighting Wood
North Vernon man Merle E. Brooks Jr. suffered extensive burns while trying to ignite firewood with kerosene or gasoline. The 40 year old was treated at Schneck Memorial Hospital before transfer to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. His wife tried to smother the flames with a rug, but flames reignited as the rug was removed.
