U S Road 31 Near Sey mour Likely Open Next Week
U S Road 31 southeast of Seymour should open within a week as concrete sets on the new wider bridge replacing the damaged middle of three spans over Mutton Creek. Jerome Dustin of the Indiana State Highway Commission said the opening depends on curing the concrete for six to ten days after pouring Thursday. The project was delayed by snow, ice, and bad weather, pushing the original Friday completion date to about a week later.

Stores to Open Nights Next Week in Seymour
Seymour merchants voted November 27 to keep shops open until 9 PM on all nights next week for the holiday rush. Open Monday night and next Saturday night December 23 and December 30, with Wednesday afternoon hours resumed after Christmas. Regular Wednesday closings will return the week after Christmas.

Women Unhurt as Auto Skids Hits Pole Near Brownstown
Several Brownstown women escaped injury Friday morning when an automobile skidded on ice along Alternate U S Road 31 south of Jonesville and struck a utility pole. The car driven north by Mrs. Helen Suzanne Sommers of Brownstown veered while attempting to pass an R C Cola truck and totaled about $250 in damage.

Rescue effort resumes on White River for drowned railroad worker
Dragging was to restart today in White River to recover the body of Robert L. Judge a 22 year old Indiana polis signalman for the Pennsylvania Railroad who drowned December 7 after slipping from an icy trestle at Rockford. His wife parents Mr and Mrs Theodore Schulte of this city offered a $100 reward for the recovery of the body.
