Jackson County has gone over the top in the Sixth War Loan Drive, county war finance chair C. G. Steinwedel announced. No final figures on exceedance of the $1,041,700 quota are yet available as the drive nears close. sales continue today boosted by a Majestic Theater bond premiere.
Funeral services for John C. Branaman Brownstown judge and former Indiana representative will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Brownstown Presbyterian Church. Burial follows in Fairview Cemetery. He died in his sleep Friday morning at age 66 after a long public career beginning in 1898 as Brownstown attorney and a Spanish American War lieutenant.
S/Sgt. Cur! Trimpe, son of Mr and Mrs Fred Trimpe of the city area, was slightly wounded in action on December 1 in France. He is in an infantry division and has been overseas since September 15. his parents await word on the extent of his injuries.
Funeral services were held at Tyson Memorial Temple in Versailles for Hal Bradt 73 former Brownstown schools superintendent who died after a three week illness with a heart ailment. Bradt longtime educator served as Ripley county schools superintendent 1907 to 1911 and was Versailles county attendance officer for two years. He was a World War I veteran and a University of Nebraska graduate with military training under Gen. John J. Pershing.
Dr. Thurman B. Rice of the state health board announced eleven tularemia cases were recorded in Indiana in the past week. One death has been reported in the state this year.
The Shields High School choir directed by Paul W. Rigsbee will perform a Christmas program at Freeman Field station hospital next Thursday at 2 pm. The announcement notes the event and the choir’s supervision.
New officers of the Seymour USC Council assumed duties Friday at the Seymour center. I. L. Frost, retiring president, handed the gavel to Arthur S. Kaufman who urged teamwork to carry on USO work and appointed Frost as chairman.
Mrs. Martha Ruth Berens aged seventy nine died at Schneck Memorial Hospital after months of illness from a fractured right femur. Born in Cincinnati September 6, 1865 she was married there in 1884 to Bernard H. Berens. Survived by husband three children thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral at St. Pauls Catholic Church Cincinnati with Solemn Requiem High Mass burial in St Josephs Cemetery. Burial party to leave Cincinnati Sunday morning.
J Edward Sherber, retired railway conductor, dies at 746 Ewing street after three years of ill health. Born March 8, 1867 in Milton Indiana, he moved to Seymour 53 years ago and married Emma L Abell in 1890. Survived by widow, three children, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. funeral 3 30 pm Monday at Voss Mortuary with Rev Edwin F Shake, burial Riverview Cemetery.

The postmaster general announces five cent postal notes for amounts up to ten dollars to go on sale in all first class post offices by January 1, 1945. Walter H. Droege of Seymour says the notes offer a safe economical way to mail small sums with simplified sale and accounting. The process does not replace money orders. customers visit the money order window to obtain notes and stamp them for the exact amount, then write the payee’s name on the note.
