Bandits Blow Up Roachdale Bank Loot and Kidnap
Ten men armed with machine guns and shotguns blew open the Roachdale State Bank early today, stealing about $4,500 in cash and bonds and severing telegraph and telephone cables. They kidnapped PF. R. Jarvis, a railroad telegraph operator, and locked him with a 17 year old girl in the Telephone office before blowing the bank and fixtures with nitroglycerin and fleeing town. Police pursued, but details remain unclear as residents report gunfire and explosions through the night.
