Local Youth Receives Purple Heart in Korea
Army private Louis E. Hallett, son of Mr and Mrs Alvin H Hallett of Seymour Indiana, was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds suffered in Korea while serving as a rifleman with the 2d Infantry Division. He enlisted last January and has been in Korea since July, earning the Combat Infantryman Badge the Korean Service Ribbon and the United Nations Service Ribbon.

Warning Laid On Tree Thefts In State Parks
A warning declares it unlawful to cut or disturb vines trees or shrubs on state parks or property after a man was arrested Sunday for cutting Christmas trees from the Jackson County state forest near Brownstown. Conservation officer Ivan Thompson and forest supervisor Curtis Reynolds said courts may impose up to five times the value of trees cut and only the state may cut Christmas trees from official plantings under supervision.
