Charles Freeman twenty four of Indianapolis is held in the city jail as authorities in North Vernon seek ties to a November 20 store robbery. Freeman, named in a confession by Dewey Elliott, may be linked to burglaries including the Kroger Grocery robbery and stations on Ewing Street. Two witnesses from the Kroger store were to view Freeman and identify him. one declined to judge, the other to view later. If identified, Freeman will be moved to Vernon. if not, to Brownstown for trial.

William Guffey aged 66 died at his home 102 East Brown street at 6 30 this morning after a three month illness. Born December 19 1864 in White Creek Hamilton township he was a lifelong Jackson county resident and a teamster. Surviving are his widow Mary Clemons three step children Elza Clemens Bertha Pettigrew Goldie Rogers two brothers Alex Gaffey and Louis Gaffey Funeral services set for 2 o clock Thursday at Voss Mortuary conducted by Rev L C Green with burial in Riverview Cemetery.

River levels fall as roads reopen in Jackson County
Floodwaters receded with most roads returning to normal in Jackson County. U S Road 50 between Wallonia and Medora remained closed at noon with detours in effect, while U S Road 31 at Rockford dried and traffic moved slowly on slick pavement. A watchman stood by the overflowed section and officials reported the river dropped about one inch per hour after midnight Monday, the first time since February 28, 1930 that water overflowed Rockford road.
