Winter Weather Forecast Hits Indiana With Snow Forecast

The National Weather Service warns of a winter storm crossing central and southern Indiana, including Jackson County. A Gulf of Mexico disturbance brings rain or snow this afternoon with 1 to 3 inches possible in southern areas, then snow and freezing rain may extend tonight and Saturday, followed by clearing weather Sunday. Temperatures dip to the 20s tonight with highs in the 20s to 30s Saturday.

The report notes unsettled skies with cold air Sunday and Monday, followed by a chance of rain in southern Indiana on Tuesday. Sunday highs reach the 20s to 30s with mid teens overnight, Monday morning around 30, warming to upper 30s or lower 40s. Ruth Everhart, the local weather observer, cites Thursday’s high of 49 and overnight low of 30. Rockford station recorded 0.10 inch of rain in Seymour and nearby areas Thursday.

Fire Hits Local Cafe In Downtown Blaze

A downtown restaurant suffered a fire late Thursday damaging the attic and roof area after grease near the stove sparked upward through vent ducts. Chief Glenn A Noblitt said the Ritz Cafe at 104 South Chestnut reported the blaze at 6 06 pm and flames were contained in about 30 minutes with over an hour on scene.

Library Moves Book Drop Box Briefly

The Seymour Public Library moves the book drop box to the alley rear of the building to ease traffic at Second and Walnut. Head Librarian Lynn Cordes says the unit is on the driver side when traveling east through the alley near the back door.

Trucks Block Fuel Pumps in Seymour Protest

Truck drivers block diesel pumps at Boron Stop 50 plaza near U S 31 and 50 to dramatize fuel costs and speed limit concerns. A spokesman says only trucks with perishable loads may refuel. Police report no trouble locally amid wider nationwide stoppages and sporadic violence in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Santa to Visit Seymour for Christmas Orders

Santa Claus will meet children at his Jaycee downtown mall headquarters on South Chestnut street next to the Farmers' Club from 4 to 7 p m. Additional sessions are scheduled Saturday 11 a m to 3 p m and 4 to 7 p m Monday through Thursday December 17 to 20 6 to 8 p m Friday December 21 4 to 7 p m and the final day Saturday December 22 11 a m to 3 p m and 4 to 7 p m.

The Natural Resources Commission of Indiana will review a Vernon Forks Conservancy District dissolution petition and consider recommendations from Fred Garver at a Dec 20 meeting. Attendees will study Garver's report and related federal policy changes affecting district planning before forwarding results to Jennings Circuit Court.

Seymour High to stage Bad Seed drama

Seymour High School’s drama club presents Bad Seed in the school auditorium Saturday at 7 30 p m. Rhoda Penmark, a golden haired 10 year old, is played by Julie Ray with Becky Davis as Christine. The play centers on a mother’s doubt about her daughter’s murderous potential and the chilling secrecy at the heart of the family.

Crothersville High School Concert Draws 200 to 250 Crowd

A good crowd estimated between 200 and 250 attended the Crothersville High School Band and Choir concert Thursday night in the high school gymnasium. The choir directed by Diana Hoke sang four numbers and the swing choir performed a piece. The high school band under Neil Manzenberger played three Christmas numbers and commented the crowd enjoyed Christmas Music for Winds. The sixth grade band played popular Christmas songs and the audience joined in a community sing afterwards.

SHS Bands Winter Concert Delights Seymour High Audience

Seymour High School presented its Winter Concert Thursday in the auditorium drawing about 650 attendees. The program featured a varied mix from musicals to Christmas numbers with favorites including Theme from M A S H and The Music Man. The Symphonic Band closed with Andersons Sleigh Ride. Stephen B E McGrew directed. Kermit B E Mann announced. Steve Silver handled lighting and sound. A reception followed in the cafeteria with Cadet Band members among the servers.
