Last fortnight of Christmas shopping marks opening of the final rush as stores report rising business volume. Seymour merchants plan evening hours from December 17 and expect strong weekend sales. Local stocks are ample with fine holiday assortments and a focus on buying at home. Christmas Day holiday observed. schools close December 23 and reopen January 4, 1937.
Funeral services for Mrs Mai tie Rachel Adams formerly of Seymour were held in Paducah Kentucky. She died at her Cairo Road home in Paducah on Friday December 4 after recently turning forty one born November 29 1895 in Kentucky. She married Oscar Adams in 1912 of Paducah and survives with five children. Also survived by two brothers James Gaffney Alfred Gaffney Seymour and three sisters Mrs Arthur B Morris era Mrs William Lohman Jeffersonville and Mrs Gilbert Morgan Chattanooga Tenn.
About seventy people were interviewed at noon in the city building council chamber as re screening of all job applicants began. Three Indiana State Employment Service representatives from Bloomington led the process. five interviewers will be present Tuesday from 8 30 to 4. Unemployed residents not yet registered are urged to file applications.
Police report eight cars stolen in recent weeks in Jackson county. Most were 1934 Chevrolet sedans or coaches and all had locked ignitions. one Plymouth. Cars stolen from Seymour streets and from Brownstown and other towns, with owners named.
The Rev and Mrs Edwin Chastain of Bedford will open a two weeks evangelistic series at Spraytown Free Methodist Church tonight. Services run nightly at 7 15 until Sunday night December 27 with special messages in song at each service announced by pastor Rev Russell Mikels.

Gov Paul V McNutt announced the appointment of Omer Stokes Jackson of Greenfield as attorney general. Jackson is the Democratic state chairman.
John L. Williams aged sixty four of 411 West Second Street died at 2 30 PM Saturday at Sechneck Memorial Hospital after a three year illness. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday at Voss Mortuary with Rev L Dewey Burham in charge. Burial in Edinburg Cemetery with Masonic rites by Jackson Lodge 146. Williams a Baltimore and Ohio Railroad engineer for 35 years had lived in the county most of his life except six years in Edinburg. Born December 7 1872 in Rockford to George and Anna Williams he married Jennie May Winterberg November 19 1896 in Edinburg. Survived by widow son H A Williams of Dallas sister Mrs Ben Garrison of Indianapolis and granddaughter Margaret Williams of Dallas. Friends may call at Voss Mortuary.
Sale of hunting and fishing licenses for 1937 opens Tuesday at the county clerk office. About 500000 license forms have been distributed statewide by the fish and game division of the department of conservation. State officials note licenses have sometimes been given as Christmas gifts.
Forty candidates will be initiated into Seymour Aerie No 655 Fraternal Order of Eagles at a special meeting in the Eagles Hall on East Second Street tonight. Loring Niles of Newcastle and Rav e& Brock of Kekomo attend with other state and Grand Aerie members. Initiatory work will be performed by a special team from across the state. plans call for another large class by January 1.

Sonia Everhart aged 75 of 735 North Belmont Avenue Springfield Ohio died at her son Scotts home 507 Indianapolis Avenue at 9 50 Sunday morning after an eight day illness. She was born March 2 1861 in Jennings county daughter of Jeremiah and Mary Margaret Myers. She married W S Everhart November 27 1881 in Jennings county and survived him. She lived in Seymour 1887 to 1918 and had many friends there. She was a member of the Christian Church. Survived by husband two sons Scott Everhart and Orville W Everhart two brothers Alberine Gudgel and Thompson C Gudgel a sister India Johnson three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral at 2 o clock Wednesday from Central Christian Church with Rev R S Wilson in charge. Bur ial Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at Scotts home anytime.
Washington school fourth grade was announced as winner in the city school contest tied to the tuberculosis seal sale. A prior report claimed the sixth grade of the same school won, but officials corrected the error.

Adrian Jones of Freetown, 27, held in Jackson county jail at Brownstown on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was arrested Sunday night on South Broadway near Consolidated Shoe by Detective Donald Winn and Officer C. J. Tucker after a report of a southbound drive on U S Route 31 just north of Seymour.
