Christmas Basket Fund Totals Rise in Seymour Drive
The 51st annual Christmas Basket Fund reports $417 raised so far this seven day period, $17.69 ahead of last year. Seymour American Legion Post No. 89 and the Seymour Daily Tribune sponsor the drive to aid needy families with food and toys this holiday season.

Mailing windows at the Seymour Post Office were scheduled to remain open until 5 p m today to aid local patrons in mailing Christmas parcel post packages and greeting cards. Next Saturday December 20 windows are to stay open until 2 p m for late mailers. Window service normally closes at noon on Saturdays.

Posthumous Honors for William H. Clevenger at Fort Benjamin Harrison
Command Sergeant Major William Henry Clevenger was posthumously awarded the Silver Star Distinguished Flying Cross Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart. The ceremony at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis was attended by his wife Lois Clevenger and daughter Katie, with Lt. Col. Donald P. Watts presenting the awards. Clevenger, 49, from Seymour, died June 6 in Vietnam, after serving with Headquarters and Headquarters Company 7th Battalion 11th Artillery 25th Infantry Division. He previously served in World War II and the D-Day invasion, earning the Purple Heart then. The awards recognize meritorious service in Viet Nam from Sept. 1, 1968, to his death.

Anti War Marchers Clash With South Bend Police
Seven people were arrested and two injured in a clash between Vietnam Moratorium marchers and South Bend police. A Michigan Civil Rights Commission member George Neagu and relatives faced charges of interfering with a police officer and resisting arrest amid a candlelight march to the St. Joseph County Courthouse.

Minor injuries were reported in two separate accidents near Dudleytown within 20 minutes. Mattie L. Allman 21 Browns town R2 drove a 1960 foreign compact that rolled several times after losing control on County Road 710 East. She was treated at Schneck Memorial Hospital. Lawrence Hillebrand 53 Seymour driving a 1966 truck reportedly blacked out and hit an embankment causing about $225 damage. he was treated for facial bruises and lip lacerations.
