Bloodmobile draws sixty pints at Brownstown church

The Red Cross bloodmobile collected 60 pints from 66 potential donors at the First United Methodist Church in Brownstown on Thursday. Dr. W. D. Sharbrough and colleagues led the drive with many nurses and volunteers aiding. The next bloodmobile stop in Jackson County is January 9 in Seymour at the same church.

Indiana lawmakers Lewis and Brand named to seven committees

State Representatives John M. Lewis of Seymour and W. Calvert Brand of Columbus earn seats on seven of the Indiana House 28 standing committees for 1969. Brand chairs the budget subcommittee and serves on Appointments and Claims Constitutional Revision and Ways and Means. Lewis sits on Constitutional Revision Financial Institutions Judiciary and Military Affairs and Memorials. Bowen adds the new Constitution Revision Committee with both members.

Purkey and Cripps Sentenced to Death in Mc Laurin Slaying

Larry Joe Purkey and James Cripps were sentenced to death in New Orleans for the February murder of Taylor W. McLaurin. The defendants, both 20, were convicted after evidence including written confessions. McLaurin, a 24-year-old from Charleston, was found in a park lagoon after Mardi Gras Eve.

The 50th annual Christmas Basket Fund in Seymour raised 342.31 with seven donors adding 84 yesterday. Major gift came from Lester Bever ages Inc. for 50 in memory of James H. Lester. Funds support Seymour American Legion Post 89 and the Daily Tribune. donations can be sent to LeRoy Pollett at Seymour National Bank or the newspaper office. The Boys' Club repairs toys for baskets to aid needy Seymour families.

Burglars Find Only Paper Inside Elizabethtown Safe

In Elizabethtown Indiana robbers, again after last summer’s break in, found only papers inside a five foot tall iron safe. Owners had replaced the combo with a padlock and a sign claiming the safe held no money. Thieves Tuesday night broke the lock and found papers once more.

Jackson County Soybean Champions Named At Banquet

Clarence Trimpe and David Bobb top the Senior and Junior divisions with yields of 55.7 and 51.0 bushels per acre at the 1968 Five-Acre Soybean Achievement Banquet in Sauers School. Twenty four contestants shared fertilizer certificates and all received pens. Purdue agronomist B J Hankins gave the talk on soybean practices and varieties.
