Brownstown Man Appears in Murder Case In Court Today
Jack T. Cockrum, 29, charged with first degree murder, appeared before Judge John M. Lewis in Jackson Circuit Court. He is accused of shooting Mrs. Marilyn R. Rice, 31, and wounding her husband James H. Rice, 37, in Brownstown on November 28. An arraignment was postponed pending appointment of a Jackson County attorney.

Two Cars Damaged in Wreck Involving Teens
An 18 year old driver Travis A Oliver of 806 South Poplar Street received a citation for no valid driver's license after a collision on Community Drive north of Second Street at 8 37 this morning. His 1956 two door sedan struck a 1946 four door sedan driven by Kelly J Reed of 615 Indianapolis Avenue. Oliver's car sustained 300 in damage to the right front area while Reeds car suffered 75 in damage to the trunk left rear fender and rear bumper.

Hayden Man Burned As Fire Destroys Home In Hayden
A 71 year old Hayden man sustained third degree burns and was admitted to Schneck Memorial Hospital after a fire destroyed his two story home near Hayden. The victim and his grandson Harold Walker were inside around 1030 am when flames were discovered beneath a table. Fire officials suspect an overheated furnace started the blaze. Local volunteers, followed by North Vernon firefighters, fought the fire as the house burned to the ground and a nearby trailer was saved. Sheriff Clyde Perkins and Trooper Richard Wilson assisted at the scene.
